The numbers are plummeting as predicted.

So much of developers time take only to have barely better numbers than poe 1. We are down to 130 000 players on steam 5 days after release.
What was the point of poe 2? Last bumped on Dec 18, 2025, 9:00:35 AM

Well it is EA no one is forcing you to play it or play it like you would PoE 1 in its current state. Most people tune in to check out the new content, if they like it they stay longer and if they don't they leave and come back next league.
So most people just played to check out druid and some the new league mechanic, those people probably played until endgame and then left since endgame is the same as before and those people are waiting for the new endgame so I expect next league to have more players and longer lasting numbers if the new endgame is good. Not the end of the world if one league has less activity than the other. At least some things were great this league like the Druid, I'd argue it's the most well done and fun to play Druid to exist in any game yet. |

For me I really, really started to feel the tedium of the campaign this league. I'm getting through it faster than ever and it still just takes too long. This was raised as a concern by hundreds of people since the start and, idk, to me it feels like it's true. It's just too much to repeat this frequently.
I also feel like it's a tooth and nail fight just to get a very basic build online. Even what should be straightforward things like "I want to cast fire spells and do fire damage" takes a crazy amount of time and effort to get semi-playable. Idk in general it seems like the entire design of the game is just so a few dozens streamers have something they can play for 400 hours a month which seems like an insane business decision for a company this large but I'm not in charge over there. My Christmas vacation started today, my wife is away for several days, and I'd normally take this time to play video games but instead I decided to get a head start on installing some window new blinds and mopping the floors lol. for me, i really liked the druid class, playing as wolf and watering plants was fun and i liked oracle and shaman ascendancies. but new league mechanic was very bad at endgame. it was needed to be scaled as we progress into endgame. building temple was so hard, time consuming and not rewarding at all. there was only one reason left to play new league and that was "new economy". but after abyss exploit, new league economy was completely broken. so there was no reason left for me to play new league. so i returned to playing at standart league and if i'm bored, maybe i could try play poe1 again.

PoE1 was in a very rough state this early too. We're only here to bug test and break builds so that GGG can patch and nerf for 1.0 release. Do they really care how many people are playing in 0.4? I don't think they're biting their nails or patting their own backs. They're just doing work and building something for 1.0 release.
I only play SSF and it is my duty as one to inform you of my status. Last edited by SoFaux#7759 on Dec 17, 2025, 1:17:52 PM

Steam concurrent player numbers are worse than useless.

give me a cent for every steam chart post and my god, stupidity would have made me rich already
|

" That's because steam only reports on people using steam... where most players use the dedicated client or you know the consoles. You're only looking at like a fraction of the whole pie and making assumptions. Oh and also the free weekend is over, of course the numbers will go down...
