Just had the same thing happen. Charged for early access that I have had for over a year. Email was in Chinese.

What appears to be happening is that people are attempting to compromise existing Path of Exile accounts, and using saved payment credentials to buy new Path of Exile II Early Access Supporter Packs to obtain keys they can sell on third-party marketplaces.

If GGG sees your account make a purchase and then they get hit by a chargeback, they are absolutely going to take action against you in addition to disabling any associated keys.

You mention "hack", they will ban you, and lengthy process of prove you are the account owner which likely they need a lot of info or they just do less, not approved

so that charge back is a very good option, if the hacker purchase the supporter pack tier that allow to give away key, which cost $60 or more

GGG treats bans (punishments) and account locks (security precautions) very differently.

It is a disastrous option, and if you keep encouraging people to consider doing it without warning them of the risk of a permanent account ban, GGG should reconsider your posting privileges.

I just received this issue right now and I needed that money for my medication just now, you have no idea how important this is.

Having the same problem. Recieved this mail and payment Info via PayPal this morning. Downloaded POE just to get my verification and hopefully support can help me out.

Thankfully if you are from the EU, you have more leverage on issues like these if they can't help you, and you should strongly consider it.

Does anything change in game after these events? Something missing? Or is the sole purpose to just have access to an account with saved payment details?

It's still odd, because even if someone from location X around the earth gets access to your account AND initiates a purchase, the credit card itself should still trigger some 2fa reaction even if paypal (or whatever middleman) doesn't. [that's how it works with Swedbank, for example]
