Dead from a single unpredictable hit... End game. Not all of us are hardcore players.
" Yes, but apparently it’s still not enough lol. |

" Yeah… Dying is one thing, but losing XP, is just a waste of time. Good point. |

" I agree with you that boss is out of balance with the others. Maybe if the game didn't have such a hefty experience penalty it would be more amusing. But as things are now, I really don't see a good reason to risk fighting him while you are trying to level. Sure, you can dodge him. But why risk losing so much playtime over a microscopic chance at a good item and waystone? My advice: just don't fight him while you are trying to level. Or if you do, at least make sure you have an omen of Amelioration activated in your inventory just in case. Last edited by Berylstone#2209 on Nov 14, 2025, 6:40:29 PM

Okey takes this from a hardcore ssf player: Monkey is not fair. Don't be fair to monkey. I skip act 3 monkey and go back with like lvl 60+ and one shot it. in terms of mapping / late game monkey? I DO NOT PLAY THOSE MAPS. and you don't need to either. just remember on which maps monkey can spawn and skip em. easy as that. no one is forcing you to play vs monkey.

Here's a tip if you absolutely have to run the map with the monkey boss. There's 3 maps with him I think. Go to Doryani and unspec all the "map boss difficulty" passives from the atlas tree. Costs 5k gold per point which isn't too much once in a while.
Monkey will only do about 5k damage with his slam. So no more one-shots unless you're playing evasion with no EHP. With +2 map boss difficulty he seems to do about 10k damage. So I'm guessing it's like 15k to 20k damage with the red slam on +4 map boss difficulty. |

I havent played for a while so things might have changed.
Does the monkey still randomly drag you along when you try to dodge its roll? Does the monkey still hit you even if you dodged(even slightly wrong angle and you get hit just by tiny tiny bit. Maybe outer edges of the attack should do less dmg?) Is it still difficult to see actually where the attack hits? If I recall correctly you need to basically hug the monkey so you can dodge behind him. He rolls around so long distances that he is often against wall or surrounded by objects that you get stuck on if you dodge at them. Therefore you often have to stand in front of him anyway. Im not sure if thats all the issues, but each of these are that "i knew what I was supposed to do and it did not work". There are design problems with the monkey. If people dodge roughly out of the way, it should work. Now it works only, sec.. pulling numbers from my ass ... ok, 8 times out of 10. So you might kill the boss and just never fail it, but even knowing what you should do, it is relatively common that it just fails. Thats the problem. |

One shots issue is directly correlated with Players infinite sustain.
If player can sustain indefinitely, the only easy to implement risk there can be added is a one-shot. If we would have fights where we are against the clock - emptying our sustain, like with potions only, there could be no one-shots as the skill check would be to kill before we run out of potions. But we have thousand methods to sustain forever. It is a bad desing, because one-shots in response to sustain is creating an environment where glass-cannon is the best, as you just kill the enemy before you're in risk of danger. They could rework(nerf) the player sustain systems while also nerfing one-shots to just happen when player makes blatant mistake, at the same time buff bosses longevity. They could also implement more "fun" ways for player to die, like Boss is spawning fields of no-regen, etc. You may not like it, but issue of one shots is caused by the power player is given in the first place. |

Monkey is bs. Hit boxes are much larger than expected based on character model. During the entire fight, one little mistake or lag and you instantly die.
Viper also bs with the full zone spear attack. Again, one tiny mistake and you’re dead. At least this attack is not frequent and it’s clear when it’s coming. I roll through and still die because I either rolled sideways slightly or the timing was a millisecond off which often times is due to lag. I play exclusively on ps5. Controller is much harder to pick exactly where you roll. |

" Your statement represents the most obvious and logical decision a player can take. Yet the most common outcome is that the player would go into those maps, get one shotted to oblivion and then complain on the forum. It is one of the main problems that GGG is facing when designing their game. Because they need to make it challenging to you and others like you, and still playable by the other type of players. Anyway, I think that your words are wasted. The solution is simple and straightforward. And most people who play this game are smart enough to be aware of its existence. They are not incompetent, just impatient. Their expectation and pride does not allow them to skip content. Thus - the outcome we see here. I wish you the best. |

" You are absolutely correct. It was few hours after this game released. I was fighting the ACT 2 boss and each time I missed a roll and got hit, I had to use a pot charges. As the fight progresses I began to run out of charges. I was thinking "AM I ACTUALLY GOING TO LOSE THIS?" For this fight, during those minutes, I honestly thought that GGG delivered what they promised. It was great, because I actually felt the intensity of the fight, where it was not about dogshit one-shots but consistently playing and dodging. It was absolutely amazing. Real action RPG. You can realize how frustrated I was when in later acts I slowly turned into an immortal. And of course after the campaign, the zoom-zoom attribute stacking started, and it was just like POE1. I wish they made all the game feel like 0.1.0 early acts campaign. Sadly - this will never happen. So, one button glass cannon zoom zoom 0.4.0 - here we come. |
