Anticipation of Loot Apocalypse 2

Let's take a stroll down Memory Lane and remember the lessons we learned from Kalandra.

During week 1, hardly anyone could find currency items necessary to roll their maps. Tujen was very popular at that time for obvious reasons. This reality left a bitter taste in the mouth and Kalandra is not fondly remembered for that reason, among other things like Tablets being unrewarding. In fact, that was the idea behind tablet rewards -- to make them the primary way to acquire loot and nerf other leagues' mechanics to be unrewarding, thereby pushing the players' focus to the new content. Obviously, this didn't work. Lesson learned, and we've only ever seen those stupid tablets during temporary events.

Now, here we are again, standing in the mouth of the sea of forgotten wisdom. GGG is coupling a major rework of a classic league mechanic with a severe reduction in loot. What could go wrong?

At least during Kalandra, we had loot explosions with Scarabs and stacks of Divine Orbs. The issue was really during the early end-game, but after getting a build together, the Divines began to flow. Now we've got none of that and even less loot potential from maps.

So, get mentally prepared for a wild first week and possibly beyond. Considering the patch schedule, there will probably be a lot of issues that get ignored until 3.28. This is a very weird situation because before, if something wasn't working or it was unrewarding, they had time to patch it.

That's why they threw down Evolving Shrine, an essential part of currency/gold farming in Merc league.

GGG [Removed by Support] believe that loot is no longer needed in POE and that with 3.27 mechanics they are so good, that they will keep the player base longer than two weeks!?

I mean, you could also not care about loot as much, and just play what you enjoy?
I don't know, is that a wild take?

Personally, everything you mentioned has zero impact for me.
Actually, that's a lie. It makes me happy when the top-end gets reigned in.

The one reason I don't enjoy this game as much as I did before is because GGG only changes the game for the 0.1% of top players.

Nerfs, buffs, adding league mechanics, removing league mechanics, changing league mechanics, literally anything in the game only affects the high end game stuff, that only affects the top players. For everyone else the game is just stagnant.

You can always decide what sort of player you want to be though, including goals and time spent. I can get 40 challenges each league if I want to, or have mirrors in my stash. I don't see the problem being ggg or the game. Heck can even skip the league too and take a little break.

Decisions decisions. You make them yourself, dude.

Some people feel they aren't "winning" unless they can complete all content.

As you note, PoE1 is much better viewed as a game of personal goals

I'm aware of that, and I'm one those players with really low goals; I'm happy to reach maps and do that for a week...then wait for the next league.

However, I don't like that people like me, with those low goals have no new things to do each league; besides some minor stuff. The game only changes for those with huge goals, for the rest of us it's exactly the same thing.

maybe try doing stuff that is already in the game that you've never done before. . .

you are basically complaining that GGG is not adding things to the tutorial. . .

What if we enjoy loot? In a genre that is all about loot? Crazy.

Good for you.
Crazy how some people don't care if the loot is removed from a loot-based ARPG.

Crazy to see how some people want the ceiling lowered just because of this elusive 0.1% of the playerbase that farm efficiently. This one is a doozy because it has nothing to do with what the player actually wants, but rather what this particular player doesn't want anyone else to have. Truly amazing.

It's these same perspectives that make me think they'd praise a casino for refusing to pay out someone's rightful winnings because they themselves didn't win, or elevate corporate interests over their own because they despise their coworkers.
