PoE1 is Unrecognizable from 10 years ago

partially agree with the first post, poe is bloated and full of relicts of the learning curve of how to make a arpg attractive and keep it that way.

is it bad? not really imho, more mechanics not necessarily make a game less difficult if they are optional.

the only thing i don't like about all those extensions is the incoherent approach ggg took when it came to the graphical and acustical representation.

for example, forbidden masters totally broke up with the dark and gritty theme the game had before. my first impression had been that
- i couldn't see any master at all because of all the blur and confusing colors they added, it felt like they added cartoon sequences to a crime mystery
- the game was trying to attract 5 year olds to play it (you heart my eyeball!!!)

after that, the dam was broken and even mtx featured cartoonish stuff which didn't really fit.

Isn't only Syndicate and Beastiary forced on you?

Heist, just dont pick up contracts
Harvest, dont go down the plant hole
Blight, dont click the thing that starts it
Abyss, dont run over the green spot and start it
Legion, dont click the crystal or wtv it is to start it

a game with 10+ year timeline have evolved? no way...things arent suppose to evolve but are suppose to stay the same! shame on GGG adding free content for over a decade

It always feels like these threads are about FOMO with mechanics that folks don't enjoy -- and the "mechanic" that I reference is always relative not universal. I think one of the great things with POE is that you can skip so many mechanics and still accomplish your goals (mostly). My list of skipped mechanics is quite extensive, and those skipped mechanics are things that quite a few people enjoy.

I would rather have a game that is filled with options that I can skip, than a game that is on guardrails with things that I can't or shouldn't skip.

i rarely have more than 2 of the optional league mechanics enabled at any given time. i might have a breach+abyss tree for xp and then a blight+kingsmarch tree cause i like blight and the kingsmarch stuff is easy to spec into in that area, depending on what i need i might have alva on the blight tree or i might give alva her own tree and perhaps put essences on it just for speed running locus/doryanis rooms .


generally atm tho deli, harvest, harbs, exiles, shrines, legion, expedition, ritual and ultimatum are completely shut off on all my trees and i dont bother looting any kind of heist items. i feel 0 fomo about any of it, i dont care at all.

what i originally came for poe was it's classlessness.

it was actually marketed as such where the only difference of class was you started in a different portion of the passive tree.

oh yes the game has changed a lot. and yeah we've gone a long way from farming maelstroms. peity farming, dock farming, dominus farming.

people used to multibox dominus with mf cullers.

exalts were worth 2-3 divs.

dream fragments were 4 exalts

exalts were 20-25c

1 gcp = 3c

there are a butt ton of improvements. over the years.

the game definitely has evolved. for some in ways that they liked. for others... not so. but thats a preference and is an unwinnable battle. the game will evolve in the direction that profits the company. not because of the whims of players.

i find my self not in the majority and the game has long since deviated so far away from what i would prefer it to be. but complaining about it now is just whining. it is what it is

Guys, its pretty clear the OP has NOT played modern PoE in any significant amount of time. He wrote this thread with virtually no actual experience in modern PoE.

So far all the comments are just....not how the game works.

Gold is NOT a substitute for Chaos. Ever
Gold is NOT mandatory, nor does it function as a currency. It's not tradeable lol.
Nearly all optional content can be blocked. This comment is from someone who has not even looked at the atlas skill trees at all.
Chaos orbs function EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as they did even way back in 2013.

PoE has never had more customization than it has now: something that oldschool PoE was already striving for.


There is practically nothing that 2015 PoE did that 2025 PoE does better. 2015 PoE was a tiny TINY game. It was a GOOD tiny game, but tiny nonetheless.

And comparing PoE to whimsyshire D3......oof lol.



There's a lot of new stuff. Instead of complaining BEFORE attempting any of it....maybe give yourself some time to explore and actually try it?


Also....out of all the leagues to complain about you actually pick out BESTIARY to single out?! All bestiary is is additional rare monsters in your maps. It's literally just base PoE. It has zero complicated mechanics around it, except at the highest tier of crafting.
