What's the point of the early game being such a slog?

im going to quit this league until things get patched and i'll just stay with standard league for now.

I made it to Act2, game is an absolute slog. It isn't fun, if cancer was a video game, it would still be more fun than PoE 2.0.

I disagree, Abyss mobs should be what the rest of the standard mobs are in power. It's nice for enemies to actually pose a threat.

This is not a game its a job. Playing this game feels like i am punching a time clock and going to work for 8 hours.

A game being engaging doesn't mean it's a job, it's what a game is SUPPOSED to be.

Um, no, there are many reports coming in that the game is off to a rough start, irrespective of your experience. I'm not complaining about it, but I'm going to deny what I see with my own eyes and be a "gitgud" wiseass.

The game is demonstrably more difficult in the early game. I practiced a number of league starts all this week and NONE of them was an issue, until I actually logged in this afternoon and started playing 0.3.

Not sure what GGG was thinking but don't be surprised to see a hotfix this weekend.

The game is the easiest it's ever been. There's no challenge left. POE1/D4 streamers won.

god act 1 is so easy. ppl failing here should learn to play better instead of blaming the game.

I had been playing PoE 2 for a month. First time it was hard. Act 1 almost made me quit the game but I persevered.

Fast forward, I'm surprised 0.3 Act 1 was easier than 0.2 Act 2. The comparison is FRESHED TO ME because I was literally testing different builds on Act 1 with 0.2 in SSF mode for a 3-4 days before 0.2 was ended.

I'm quite surprised that SOME folks with decent experience in PoE 2 have a hard time in 0.3 Act 1

Maybe I'm naive but I thought they'd finally make the campaign tolerable and skills less of a chore with this league, instead they pull this boring ass, no fun allowed-patch just before the free weekend. New players will have such an amazing first impression, guys

The game not falling over is fun. The game falling over and having zero difficulty is not fun.
If you find being challenged a chore, you should probably stick to easier games like POE1.

Over the years, I feel like too many people in many gaming communities have a strange obsession with the word "challenge" and have lost sight about what a good challenge is and instead just give themselves handies over there being a "challenge"; across the leagues, nothing has taken me any skill to overcome. In fact, many of the solutions to issues that arose while playing a few characters decently into maps were actually disappointing and unfulfilling.

Last league in particular my merc build was struggling on jamanra, I upgraded what gear I could given my currency situation, redid my talent build, tried different support and skill combinations.....and ultimately what got me past him was just spamming 1 button to freeze him. I was so disappointed in the game, I logged out and didn't play for a day.

The thing is, the game falls over for you in all the worst ways.
Tedium != Challenge. This game is amazing at wasting your time with little to no reward.
Still alot of people defending it, yet it is weird when you consider the Devs treat them like idiots. Spelling out Thier own skill synergies in the description, instead of building a support/passive system that allows you to experiment and find your own synergies. Poe2 is an arpg for people who don't like arpgs.
The game really isn't fun for me at league start because of how slow and slugish everything falls into place. Hated this in 0.2. Have the same experience now.

In 0.2 i played the campaign three times and on the second and third it felt SO MUCH better with the leveling uniques. Imo this is how the default experience should be like. I don't give a damn about "challenge" in early game. Leave that for later parts. I want a smooth experience and i want to feel that the character gains power. Not hang around the same miserable feeling power level for the first 15 hours. That said bosses feel easy so far. It's the white mobs and slow gear progression that create the tedium.

I think it's more like, some players want simple mechanics and "meaningful" (whatever that means) gameplay. They often roil against "zoom-zoom boom-boom" gameplay like media talking heads spouting the day's headline, even though the evolution of PoE Deuce is inevitably heading in that direction.

They are doomed, I think, to disappointment. ='[.]'=

ETA: PoE 1's great draw for replayability is its potential for non-mandated builds. I will happily create alts just to try new ideas, and don't mind replaying the ten act campaign to try them out. I don't see that being possible with Deuce. Ever. ='[.]'=

Why can't the game start at level 1? What is different between the game being challenging immediately or challenging "later"?

All this mindset does is make it so you are losing brain cells doing unengaging mind-numbing content as you zombie through the game because "the real game starts at end game".
