The whole Idea of aquiring Mercs is completely backwards

This is now the 5th time in a row I got insta gotcha!'d by a Merc I wanted to hire.

Can't fight a Kinetic Wander with my Totems, because I get clipped by and just insta-die from an off-screen cluster of projectiles. And no, not a glass-cannon build. I have use for the AoE clear, but essentially can't hire them.

Can't outrun the Shield Charge dude, as he completely ignores my Totems and goes straight for me. Same goes for the big slammers, who will just YOLO-charge my ass with a burrow/AoE slam. Even though I have Taunt on my Totems.

Some of the Mercs either have invisible or instant attacks that just one-shot.

What is the point of hiring a Merc to fill a niche a build is lacking, if I have to fight them first?

The entire approach is completely backwards. Mercs fight for gold, not glory. That's the whole point of a mercenary. They are only loyal to those who pay them.

At this point I'm inclined to just ignore them and keep blasting maps, because they are starting to cost too much, figuratively and literally.

Yea they hit hard, but with 3 artillery ballista I haven't had a problem getting any of them, even with my crappy gear from 15 levels ago.

There is a fine line between mastery and folly, one triumphs, the other hides behind skill’s absence.

ZHP builds have always been a true skill check after all

Get to a lower level area to get a merc. Then use that merc as a meat shield to kill better merc who will take the spot. And so on.

I was really looking forward to playing League, but with the current server issues, it's just not enjoyable. If this keeps up for the next few days, it’ll be a hard skip for me. At least I can still check out the new endgame content in Standard once the issues are fixed, it's not a huge loss.

Mercs are just a bit of borrowed player power, so missing out on them isn’t a massive deal. I can still enjoy other games without the server headaches in the meantime.

But hey, on the other hand, we knew the usual complaints about things being too over-tuned would pop up sooner or later. Guess it’s just the nature of League launches, never really disappointing in that sense, huh?
