Quite a bit of reasons why XP Death Penalty has got to go

+1

Bad outdated game mechanic.

No. EXP loss is good for the game and doing what it's supposed to do.
What makes it good for the game? Is there no other way to do what it's doing?

No, there is no other way to prevent people from mindlessly grinding their way to lvl 100 without effort and thereby destroying the ladder aspect of the game.

There is no ladder aspect of the game. It's not a real "ladder" when everyone is forced into it, and 99% of the players aren't even trying to compete. lvl100 isn't an achievement when nobody else is even trying to compete with you.

That's like being proud of winning a running race where all your opponents are sleeping.

Exp loss is bad and outdated, and should have been left in the past.

In no universe does any of what you just said make sense. Of course there are people who enjoy the ladder and of course lvl 100 is an achievement, precisely BECAUSE you can't mindlessly grind it out. That's exactly what EXP loss is for. /facepalm

You keep repeating that point as if it's an actual argument. Maybe you should look for a game that actually focuses on a ladder, not one that only uses it for promotions from time to time, and in which less than 1% of players actually participate?

Huh? There is a ladder in every single league.

Your side is the one without an actual argument. There is absolutely no reason optional levels should be made attainable for everyone at no effort.

Why are you so upset that some aspects of the game are only meant for the most dedicated and involved players? Who cares if it's only a small percentage? It's entirely optional, you literally don't miss out on anything if you stop caring about exp somewhere between 90 and 95.

There are tons of games that have some ultra hard optional content that requires effort and gives the most dedicated players a sense of achievement and pride. This is a good thing.

The only time a ladder becomes "relevant" for more than the insignificant amount of players participating are races, and those are optional.

There is also no reason XP loss should exist just so that a small percentage of players feels better about them competing in some ladder the vast majority of the player base does not care about. You don't miss out on anything if there is no XP loss, given that XP above 90 gets adjusted.

Why can't your "sense of pride and achievement" come from content instead of a core part of any RPG? Other games with optional hard content usually don't have "reach the highest level" for a reason, because it is not as good of an idea as you might think it is...

Again, there is a ladder in every league. People do care about those ladders, not just during the races.

Demanding that aspect of the game will be destroyed entirely, just so little Jim-Bob can feel some validation by reaching level 100, which ironically would not be an actual achievement anymore? Huh?

So you want to take away the option for people to actually dedicate themselves to real competitive achievements just so you can unlock an imaginary achievement by reaching a certain arbitrary and meaningless number next to your character? :DDD

I a bit late to the party but there is a very simple way of turning the punishment of losing xp for dying into a reward gaining more xp for surviving.

Say you beat a map without dying. You are awarded a buff for the next map that increases xp gain by 25%. If you die in that map, it's gone. If you survive that map too, it gets extended to the next map and so on and so forth.

Rewards for behavior you want to see > Punishment for behavior you don't want to see
