New-gen ARPG with 30 year old core systems?!

How exactly are we breaking the mold with POE 2?

Sure we have 1500+ passive tree nodes with maybe 50+ worthwhile clusters, but my attributes are:

STR - gives some hp, still need ES if I want to not be one shot. Does nothing else directly.
INT - gives mana, either completely useless for you or almost useless as you still need key nodes to stack it properly.
DEX - gives accuracy, which is about the most useless stat unless you are Amazon and even then you feel bad for stacking it.
These core attributes do very little and could as well be removed from the game (or implemented only in the tree) as they stand now. They are just stumped secondary stat generators that don't interact with majority of other systems.

My defenses are:
-HP+HP'(read: ES)
-Evasion (covers 2/9 of possible incoming damage, sure at lv 90+ I can maybe go Acrobatics to gamble even more)
-Armor (covers 1/9 of possible incoming damage, and even than has a threshold)
And ofc whole endgame is balanced on me having 75%+ elemental resistances, which also work in the most basic way imaginable but that is fine, I guess.

90% of prefixes and sufixes existed since D2, and the new ones are a joke.

Conclusion: POE2 core systems, namely attributes and defenses, are rudimentary and cannot be build upon (in current form) to stand the test of time for a self-proclaimed new-gen ARPG.

My suggestion: Use the EA for its purpose and maybe further the genre aside from its graphics and animation. As a sidenote, maybe also brainstorm if skills make sense in the endgame before putting them out.

I honestly don't understand why they even bother with a 3d engine just to keep it a 2.5d game view.
They wanted to have meaningful combat with combos, that would be awesome if you changed the camera to 3d person and we could play the game like a souls game.
You know, and make the combat fun.
Sorry, what is wrong with mods that are standard to most loot games like attack speed, added damage, crit, life, etc?

I dont see why them being core to arpgs from 30 years ago means they are not desired now.
"Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."
The short answer is they are not trying to break the mold. There is no innovation in APRG industry in general except from Last Epoch. I don't even think POE 2 is a visual upgrade. Ya momentarily it looks good but functionally its just as anti immersion and crappy as POE 1. Nothing worth paying attention to is visible ever. This might be a me issue as I have a peasant ass gpubut since I have perfect visibility in Last Epoch and NRFTW, i am gonna say that POE 2 graphics are not great functionally.

Having said that the core is core cause it is solid. GGG has really good mechanics, complex and engaging. They are just a bit much sometimes but that is good as it keeps people engaged for longer. Things should not change for the heck of it. There are tons of things to innovate around the current core.

On one part don't fix what isn't broken...

However forcing soulslike to an arpg wont work.
Its like saying you make a metroidvania with procedurally generated maps... It just wont work!

Its even worse that each enemy is scary, but easily avoidable because in campaign the groups are small, and the telegraph is easy to read.
In maps... there are so many enemies on the screen you have no idea who IS the threat. When 10 wannabe lordaron archer pull their strings, a horde of spellcasters cast meteor, those annoying mecha Urgots charge their laz0rbeamz, giants and goliaths goes enrage and start their tantrum, while you get graandes, nuclear carpetbomb, floor is lava, volatile plant with temp bubble and a thousand mods at once... You have no clue who you should focus at.

I think in arpg meaningful gameplay should be done by adding defensive skills and crowd control abilities. Since every endgame build is 1 or 2 buttons we have spare slots left. Not to mention the Unset ring is the most useless item in the game.
Theres no mitigation in the game! We have heal, % heal, recoup and leech!
I bet if we would have dps meters like in wow my overheal rate would be up to the Moon, and if you're oneshotted heal doesn't matter anyway...

Why doesn't the game have "reduced healing", stacking dots or if you want scary enemies instead of oneshotting they could have %health damage. So they never oneshot you, but its pretty scary...

Give us walls that the enemy have to walk around.
Smokescreen that give enemy Line of Sight, so they need to walk out before they start shooting.
Quagmire that slows speedsters,
knockback that stuns enemies if they collide with walls

if you don't have these tools the only meaningful gameplay is to nuke the screen before they can even realise what happened.

And I don't think there's much "meaningful" combat in hoarding so much passive stat you can ignore the content either.

They won't do that probably because how this game is rendered

ya and if they changed any of these systems there would be just as much bitching about how THIS IS HOW ARPGS ARE MEANT TO BE WHY ARE YOU CHANGING IT
yep, it's so easy that 99% of the players copy paste other's builds
d:-D*

THat's literally not even an ARPG anymore -- if they did that, this game wouldn't even have existed..

You're asking them to make an isometric ARPG a 3rd person shooter..... jfc.

ARPG's by definition include isometric camera (if camera ain't exactly as is, it's not an ARPG -- this is disturbingly important to the majority of us ARPG players)
