exp loss
" Perfectly articulated. Great post. |

" By skillful you mean using build guides on busted mapping skills like LA, LS, or COC comet? Where on earth is "skill" in that?:) Players who actively speak about how they are superior to others should really consider if they are merely repeating same steps for 100th time, and what part of their character is actually their own "skillfullness". And that is even assuming we treat softcore leagues as competitive event, which I assure you exists only in your head. Are you hurt when someone else reaches level 100? Does it depend on whether or not the applicant is "skillful" in your opinion? Would you really start/stop playing depending on how others play their own progression? |

" Whoa, that's a lot of assumptions based on nothing (perhaps based on your own approach and projected on me). Here's my 0.4 character if you need to validate: https://poe.ninja/poe2/builds/vaal/character/Evergrey-7535/Chonkest?i=2&search=name%3Dchonk&timemachine=week-15 And here's a short t16 mapping vid from before some upgrades: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKP_nsKcAXc Melee character with a build i was polishing on my own since 0.1. I never played poe1 nor have i followed a guide in poe2. The way you directed the discussion towards personal stuff is saying a lot about you. " I never said YOU were following a guide, point was poe2 has very few builds capable of overcoming the mess described in my above posts here. And those builds are on the verge of trivializing all content in the game. This is how they reach level 100 despite current state of exp penalty. It has nothing to do with skill or player's creativity. Play meta or stay at 90-95 |

" I dunno mate. I reached 100 with no temple leeching, on my own, self-made, completely off meta build that's melee too. Skill issue. People fall into the trap of blindly following guides instead of figuring stuff on their own. If more people would, the more diverse level 100 distribution would be. It's players creating issues for themselves by copying instead of playing. I enjoy exp loss. It's satisfying to overcome it by myself. " Sigh, you speak truth, but this is not the prism to look through. Player only cares about what they do personally. Developers who design features like exp penalty should care about average player behaviour within their target audience. Tenacious nolifers can take anything and grind through most unfair mechanics. But they are few in numbers and no one sane will take them as sole target audience and design a game around continuous progression rewind. The fact that you and some other people can overcome exp penalty is less valuable from the business standpoint than a crowd of people leaving game frustrated by penalty. Or at least it should be if studio follows common sense. Elden Ring allows reclaiming 100% of what you lost after death, D2 allows reclaiming 75% loss. This is very important layer of protection against random missteps every human makes from time to time (or against game crashes/bugs). Poe doesn't have this layer, every single death is irretrievable, which has logical consequences of losing players to this single feature. If GGG is okay with that, their loss. |

" Well you don't lose items/currency/gold, do you? Neither can you lose a level. I understand what you're saying, I just perceive it differently. It's players fault that they watch, copy and compare instead of playing and learning imo. If i'd follow a guide and couldnt breach level 100 despite trying i would be mad too, it;s just i'd rather comment under the guide I was following instead trying to "fix" the game with condescending feedback. " This is where psychology comes in. Losing several hours of progression in a blink of an eye, to single RNG fluctuation, without any chance to retrieve, is so frustrating that no one will ever think about not losing items/currency/gold. If auxiliary feature of penalty does such things to players, redesign that feature. About guides and build variety, in poe, no amount of learning can make a build viable if base skill is weak or mechanically unsuited for endgame screen wiping. You know better than me, how many skills are just shit, and need mirror dumping to make them barely viable. Far too easier to dump the skill and take meta skill. But respeccing takes time and resources, new gems, new gear. Here is another player leaving game over something devs could avoid. New players cannot know meta skills unless they google 3rd party sites. So if GGG insists on keeping such crude archaic version of a penalty, they should at the very least provide more viable build routes, and make those routes clearly visible for new players. GGG refuses to do that either, enough years had passed so we can state that. Conclusion: from the common sense, either the penalty or endgame build variety would have to change before average player even gets a chance to apply their personal skillfullness. " I agree with everything you said in here. I am happy we reached the conclusion. And I am 100% for the latter solution from your conclusion. I suppose it is the goal for GGG to make it happen this way too. Just one day at a time. Combat Balance > Feelings Last edited by Evergrey#7535 on May 14, 2026, 11:59:33 PM

LvL 100 is not a thing you should be guaranteed to get you have to work for it and the setbacks are pert of that
Myself have never gotten to 100 I think I got to 98 on one If ever one could get to 100 it would cheapen the drive to get there knowing it will happen no matter what My vote is to Not remove the exp penalty Though i do agree that 10% at lvl 90 is a bit much maybe before 90 make it 10% and once you hit 90 make it like 5% But if not DON'T remove it in all |
