State of Crafting
It seems like crafting using pure rng is not completely viable in the campaign of the game. A decent example would be with a minion build. You can get +1 level modifiers on some items and spirit on a couple items. These mods are very hard to get through the random crafting, especially with no orbs of alteration. It seems like once you get mods on a magic item, they are stuck and just brick the item. Even if you get decent mods on the magic, then regal, that can brick the item.
In very rare cases you can get an item to rare with the mods you want, but then you cant replace that item for 20 levels of the campaign. Even with a plethora of crafting currency dropping, not enough base white items drop to be able to craft for the mods you want, you need some way to re-roll items or reset items that you already have. A possible solution might be that disenchanting an item does not destroy the items, it just gives you some of the shards and gives you a white item back. I think that this would substantially help crafting and would fit perfectly thematically. This is especially hurtfull on ssf where you cant even get base white items to craft on and/or cant reroll item mods. Honestly I am at the point where i would rather just have white items drop than useless rares and magic items that you cant craft on. They are just purely disenchant fuel, could have just dropped as a shard. It seems like even trade league has some difficulty targeting modifiers on items. Essences are helpful in getting this crafting correct but maybe they arent targeted enough or the fact that you may not get the mod you want and now your base item is bricked is a problem. They could just let us use essences on magic and rare items too, that would be great. Limiting the pool of RNG if we save enough essences.
Would be nice if we could also craft essences if they ever decide to do that. |

Yeah, that essence idea would probably work pretty well. Still rng but at least more targeted for your second magic mod or fourth rare mod.

Another possible issue around this could be that there are a lot of chests and even some strongboxes that are empty, not a loot filter empty, completely empty. These are places that could have some gold, shards or even white base items.

Have crafting like poe1.
Cost x amount to get a stat you want. Maybe you can only do this 3 times and the rest is RNG? |

Crafting? What Crafting? You think there is crafting in this game? All I see is pure gamble RNG for everything. To call what this game does "Crafting" is an insult to the word.

I had a thought the other day. What do you think of "when you use a transmute orb, a UI panel opens with 3 possible affixes. You select your favorite affix, and that becomes the mod that is put on the item." It's kind of slow, but crafting is slow here, anyway. At least now, you have some control/agency over the crafting process, and it still has a level of randomness.
Then you would have a similar system for augments, regals, and exalts. Essences could be pretty similar, and always offers affixes with the relevant tags. Also, you can have "Pure Transmutes" which do this and are rarer, and "Regular Transmutes" that are common and do what transmutes do right now. " Nah in POE 1 it cost X to get 6 mods. Start fractured prefix > essence spam till hit another suffix > lock suffixes > reforge to get 3rd suffix > lock suffixes > veiled orb > finish with crafting bench mod. BOOM. Item with the 6 mods you wanted. For like 10 divs. That much determination is also bullshit man. Not defending the slot machine in POE 2, just saying that absolutely no gamble is the same shit. |

" This sounds like the expedition item-upgrade process... maybe they could let us upgrade our own items through the expedition bartering process.. I personally dont have trouble with item crafting (I only play SSF).. as I use a simple rule.. If the 2 affix blue item is not an obvious upgrade, don't turn it into a rare... That way the rare affixes are always okay, because I would use the blue item anyway as a blue. In fact, I often will use it as a blue, waiting to see if I get something betterIf it seems like it's going to have staying power, and i have currency, ill turn it into a rare. ..also, I pickup EVERYTHING that is blue or rare or a white base i need, like a hoover. If the item looks "good" (even for another class) I'll stash it. If the item is trash, Ill salvage or disenchant it. If the item has potential, i'll spend cheap essence/orbs on it trying to get two *great* affixes on the blue... if I don't get them, I disenchant... i (almost) never regal/rare a blue while leveling unless I would equip it already as just a blue. One can complete Act 1 in all blues, so it's not like everything needs to be rare to progress. |
