Worth it to keep playing PoE 1?

My "thing" is just that I don't want to start over every few months. Most PEOPLE agree with that.

I mean if most would agree to that standard would be more alive, yet here we are in a game that survived the last decade only thanks to fresh leagues and people coming back to a fresh start.

It may be not your thing to start all over again each new league, but that's what you have standard for, a place where you can progress on your own pace.
Drawback it's kinda dead mainly due to the fact that the majority of players are just league players, along with the game being purely balanced around seasons rather than "long term" like mmorpg style.

Maybe just maybe if even standard isn't good enough for your needs, it's time to seek for a different game. With millions of games on the market there is surely something out to hit your interests more.

I'm pretty over this "discussion," but please don't misrepresent or debate in bad faith.

Standard is lackluster. Just because it doesn't reset doesn't mean it's the perfect & ideal game mode for people that don't want to reset on Leagues. The plentiful issues that Standard has keeps people away from Standard, and thus the game as a whole.

As my fanboy quoted before giving the ever-so-insightful "lmfao" reply:

Do not underestimate the amount of would-be players.

BUT, I digress. I don't really care what the people here say. You'll shout from the upper deck "LONG LIVE POE" long after the ship has already sunk. Or, well, maybe "blurgle blurgle" instead, but you get the idea.

PoE is like WoW; it had a strong start, and it's been riding its own coattails this whole time, despite having been on a decline the entire time. It could have been so much more. But it shoots itself in the foot constantly, and with support from the community the whole way. Remember: For every PoE player that says "it's better now than it ever has been," there's a WoW player saying the same thing.
Theres no WoW player saying that about retail WoW

The only issue that standard really has is that there is no reset, nothing that really keeps the players engaged or gets them back to play it on long term.
There is a non existing market beyond the niche mirror item section, nothing has value as it exist en mass.
And everyone who has played league once or multiple times have a character all geared up to the brim and therefore no need to invest even further time to "gear up" more.
Most of all players play league for this specific reason, simply to enjoy starting out with nothing, trying out new content/changes, and engaging in a existing market.

Except unlike WoW, PoE1 did manage to really become a better game with each passing league to the point of what we have now.
Is it totally perfect? Maybe not, but it's in one of the best states it has ever been with the player having full control of whatever they want to do.
You can't really say the same about older versions that really did lack a lot of what PoE got nowadays since the introduction of the passive atlas tree.

You're just sour that the game does not resolve around standard at this point, and you just fail to understand the reason of why GGG introduced it in first place.
As mentioned in a previous post, a different game might fit your needs better.
Minecraft might be a good pick for you, as it's very simple, easy to understand, got a casual mode, and also offers you very long long-term viability :)
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

You had me in the first half. But then, in classic PoE community fashion, you couldn't help but show your true colors with the Minecraft quip.

At the end of the day, you are also just another guy playing this wretched game because it's some sort of symbol of elitism for you. Comparing anyone who doesn't like PoE to a Minecraft player? What else was in your arsenal? Hello Kitty Island Adventure?

"Do better."
As mentioned somewhere else, I would agree with the idea that league mechanics should apply to standard as well. This can keep standard players happy during a league and might inject just enough players to keep the trade flowing.

Well obviously to express that I think it could be a lot better.

Obviously.

Next question.

In your opinion. I disagree with it.

What now?

I play it each league for a specific time cause I actually do enjoy. It's a niche game with regular joy while also allowing space for other games once you're done for a bit and take a break.

You're in search for a long-term game, and there's totally nothing wrong about Minecraft, as it does give you your long term satisfaction and ability to design your total own content in whatever difficulty may be in interest. Something's that PoE1 standard doesn't seem to achieve for you.

I personally wouldn't recommend Hello kitty as it's something for small kids, but well if you're into it, nobody would judge you. So pick whatever works the best for you :)

Playing games is not about "worth". Its about fun. Either you have it or not. If you have it, you play. If not - why bother playing?

Its not job. The only "worth" here is fun.
