Advice for 40 challenges (Settlers / T17 maps)
T17 can be "cheesed" with Shrines, put all Shrine nodes & Niko & Einhar on and add Shrines with Kirac. Will make the boss much easier, esp on builds that benefit strongly from Shrines. In your Ice Crash case you can replace a link even if you get crit Shrine etc.
Other than that took a quick look at your Ice Crash and your gear could use a lot of improvements. Min-maxing very important in this game. Your links dont look very efficient. And the defenses of your build look to me like there is a "lack of vision" of how to survive harder content. Im not familiar with that kind of build though. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" This is what I do for T17 maps. Still, without removing prefixes or sufixes I find bosses too difficult. Specially Abomination. The jump in difficulty vs any other content I do is brutal. " Thank you for taking the time! I refurbished my build several times since I started playing, so that's why it might look weird because I came back to PoE1 after a few years due to the debut of PoE2 but I ended up focusing on PoE1. I was just having fun trying things out. Let's say it was my personal project, to see if I could come up with a viable build by myself. Regarding damage, what would you say it's the issue? My focus was on melee damage/rage and crit (and the ability of the inquisitor to ignore elemental resistances). Regarding the links, I have what PoB gives me as the highest numbers. The only thing I could switch for more damage (according to PoB anyway) would be crit support for Elemental Focus which I do switch for bosses who cannot be frozen, but freezing is too good of a defensive layer to give up for the rest of the content. If I swap Lifetap then I'll have to inevitably reduce damage to solve mana issues and it will be another mod on maps and monsters that would be a pain in the A. Regarding defenses, I have overcapped resistances, 68%/65% chance to block attack and spell damage, close to 5k life, immunity to bleeding and corrupted blood, immunity to elemental ailments and immunity to damage reflect, over 100% crit damage reduction, 20 fortification (+7 when focused), 31% physical damage reduction (+12 when focused), endurance charges and CWDT immortal call. I was planning on getting the instant life leech enchanment to improve survivability as well (I can tank some pinnacle bosses right now, as long as I can attack them, I thought if that leech was instant maybe I could tank T17s too) and maybe a Progenesis. What more would I need to beat T17 bosses? Sorry for the long text and all the questions. It's just that maybe if I understand why I can't get better it will help me for the next league if I end up playing it. For me, all the fun is in theory-crafting. I could copy builds that already work but that would be unfun. |

"This (Abomination) has to do with your build. With Evasion/Suppression builds its much easier as long as you dont roll bad mods. "Not being familiar with your build I dont know/understand what you "should" do. However I can still see some likely "wrong"s in your build, see following comments. "With your links looking bad I meant that properly built builds typically use proper damage links. And not links like "faster attacks" or "increased critical strikes". You can easily tell that these links are typically bad by them not giving "more" multipliers. In case of "increased critical strikes" the main issue looks to be the weapon. You make a crit build with a weapon that has only 5% crit chance. Normally "no one" makes builds with/for such weapons even if they have "increased crit" on the weapon which you dont even. There are some exceptions where builds can get more base crit chance elsewhere but you dont seem to either. So basically this looks like a huge waste of "points" to me. "faster attacks" link: Normally you get the attack speed elsewhere because that is the more efficient way to build. And there are many more such issues in your build. Best upgrade would be to get someone properly knowledgeable about such builds to give you positive advice. (Im just pointing out things that dont look good.) "Far too low if you dont have otherwise unholy levels of tank which you dont. Typically life based builds want a fat life mod on every piece of gear. "Easy way would be to make an Ephemereal Edge build, you already have a Trickster. The build you have probably can do it too if you tweak it enough. "You can get better if you put in the effort and are willing to change. "If you want to make your own (working) builds try to look at this more from a base math perspective. And understand the power of min-maxing, already wrote that above but IME people do not understand or acknowledge it, this is the key to turn weak builds into working builds. Your build is lacking all over from that min-maxing perspective. The power of min-maxing in PoE has to do with the game working in multipliers. So every little point you squeeze out somewhere can be turned into a "more" point somewhere. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

Thank you for your detailed response, Zrevnur!
I tried not using faster attacks, but then my attack is so slow that puts me in danger and multistrike animation-locks me very often so I get killed easily. After reading your post, I have the feeling that rage-crit Ice Crash is fundamentally flawed as a concept. Maybe that's why everybody is playing it with Echoes of Creation + overexertion (and the few who don't have less damage than I do) and the only variation is whether they use 1H+Shield or 2H. I think that rather than having to refurbish the build into a slow slam build, I'll give the Blood Sacrament a chance (deals more damage, way faster, and I don't have to worry about hit chance or attack speed, all while stacking life) or try to go back to the ER Trickster like you suggest. Cheers and thanks again! |

Echo's of creation is pretty powerful. I played without for a while because I didn't want the downside, but found it noticeably better when I used it and was surprised that the downside is actually quite manageable. I also got put on to using some good cluster jewels which made the build stronger.
I no longer have that build (Have the gear but it's not set up) as I converted it into a smite build. I made a post asking for build advice around the time I was doing ubers though and there might be useful information in there as some people where helpful. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3564439 It was a bit different from your build though, I was chieftain and using 2H mace. The main good thing about chieftain was basically infinite healing from multiple warcries. Last edited by Belegur85#5784 on Mar 24, 2025, 8:06:30 AM

" Thank you for the link! I'm not sure how Echoes would do with my Ice Crash build, I don't know if the damage taken from it removes crab stacks. I think what I will do is leave my Ice Crash build as it is, because even if it's inefficient it's still the only build I have which can do any content extremely easily except T17 bosses, late deli waves and foiled maps. So I'll use it to grind and maybe I'll try to get my Trickster or Gladiator to get the last 2 achievements (I got the 38th almost in the bag). Today I got very lucky double-vaaling my Kaom's Heart for my Blood Sacrament Gladiator (doesn't seem like the best ascendancy for it, I don't know why I thought spells could cause bleed, I rarely play spellcasters) and it's the best and the only good outcome on an item I've got out of 20 temples: Still, the build is very clunky since the moment I take 3k damage I can't cast spells and a bad timing can mean insta-death. Maybe I should have a weapon swap ready with Reap so I can do something while I recover the reserved Life. If I manage to get a Nimis maybe I'll take my Trickster and go Splitting Steel or LS. Not sure. |

Nice one, that will help.
Yeah trickster is pretty good for doing these. Seems like you have a lot of good options. GL with getting them. |
