Goodye Chris and thank you.

Exile, you have been chosen.

Chris, thank you for everything you’ve done for Path of Exile. Your vision shaped a game that became more than just an ARPG—it became a world, a challenge, and for many of us, a long-term obsession.

From the early days of ruthless grinding to the wild experiments of new leagues, you’ve guided PoE with passion and dedication. Whether we were chasing perfect items, theorycrafting ridiculous builds, or just trying to survive another Gauntlet, your work made it all possible.

As you step away, I hope you get to enjoy the rewards of your own hard work—without having to worry about balance patches or economy fixes.

Thanks for everything, Chris, we hope your future has some nice drops in store for you. Your service has been notable.

Sincerely,
An Exile.

I'll wait for confirmation from GGG. Last time this was a clerical thing when changing org structure.

Edit: and if it's not and they won't announce/confirm then I'll just live in ignorance believing things never change. Though Bex's responses on twitter make me think he actually maybe has. Sigh. The 'change to being more on the business side' really does start to seem like a strategic exist. Put a new face up.. spend a year ignoring 'where is chris' and then officiate it hoping the community has moved on. Christ Wilson will always be integral to my love for the game. I also believe the future is in good hands with Jonathan/Mark. Life goes on.

I don't want to believe that T_T, but Chris deserve a monument and a peaceful life. We love you Chris, don't leave us completely. Come back some times, we adore and respect you so much!

If it's indeed true, thank you Chris for creating one hell of a game for us & for your passion all these years.

Sorry this community was terrible at times when all you wanted was to help & communicate fairly. Unfortunately, a lot of people dilute their rage on others who don't deserve it.

Hope they make a statue of you in each game and one we can add to our hideouts as a memory of the greatest game director we've ever seen.

You'll be deeply missed, commander. Hope life's good & you grow your magic collection even more :)
The guy always had passion for the game, and was enjoyable to listen talk about it. I think Chris had that passion up til the point where reddit and this forum to a lesser degree started mocking "the vision" and calling him a liar a couple years ago.

Its funny but all the 2headers who mock the vision are here playing and posting about POE instead of the perfect example of "vision-free" D4 that panders to nearly every shallow "anti-vision" short sighted player request from nearly no penalties or challenge, to campaign skip.

Wonder why that might be. Almost like without vision you end up with a shit game.

I don't agree with everything Chris thinks is best, I could and have talked about that extensively but I'd rather play a game with vision (even a very imperfect one like POE1 where the vision went off the rails and got compromised/captured) than one without.

Its the difference between games that are trying to be great games full of thoughtful design that are trying to immerse you into gaming. Versus games that are trying to sell to the widest audience possible to immerse you into their cash shop and paid expansion cycle.

Long live the vision. Hope Chris makes an indie game for fun some day, I'd play it.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

never playing poe again if it's true.

Thank you Chris for everything u've built with GGG.
As a D2 fan since its inception I can't express how happy I was when someone came around to make a real successor to that masterpiece. U've not only made a successor tho, u created the next step in the ARPG scene and a masterpiece in itself!

Enjoy ur time and never forget that most of the community was on ur side, always.
I wonder if he sometimes comes and reads us. So many people admire him and wish him the best

Well deserved.

Started playing PathOfExile 10 years ago, i only missed one league, only because i was facing a divorce. Other than that - i was there, packed with food and energy drinks, waiting for the most emotional speech starting with -Hello, this is Chris Wilson from Grinding Gear Games!!!
Thank you for making this game, thank you for being a big part of it

Thank you for making my life better, Chris
I too want to express my gratitude to Chris. In just a few weeks time, my account will be 12 years old. What a fun ride it has been!

I really hope that we'll get the chance to find out a bit more about the circumstances of his leaving and his plans for the future (will he officially retire or will we see him again somewhere else in the gaming space?).

Thank you and farewell to Chris!

I'm a little sad that there was no post or anything about Chris retiring from GGG.
I am not at all surprised that POE is in this state, if such people work in the company.

Thank you Chris for all these years, this company will never be the same without your shiny bald head. :D

Goodbye we will miss you.
