are we the boomers for preferring PoE1 ?
I've seen many people brought the argument of "PoE2 have more concurrent players".
Then we PoE1 enjoyers are just coping in our bubble that the "tourists" will go soon. PoE2 made me appreciated PoE1 even more. I was wrong for thinking PoE1 was not as good as it is. Tell me are we the boomers or it's just the "shiny new thing" ? Last bumped on Feb 10, 2025, 9:11:31 PM

Not really, aside from grafics and campaign poe1 is just the better game currently.
They worked only 3 months on poe2 endgame (according to "A message to poe1 players") and you can really feel it. Poe2 will get there, eventually, but that'll take a few years |

Concurrent players means nothing for the people actually playing the game especially when it isn't a group focused game to begin with. Plenty of actual MMORPGs are doing fine with just 10k or less players.
It's not indicative of how good the game is either. PoE 2 has more accessibility and offers a fresh start. That increases player count by default regardless of the game's state as the barrier to entry is just that much lower. Also PoE 2 existing doesn't make PoE 1 a worse game. As for myself, I think PoE 1 is superior in all gameplay aspects and I don't see myself playing PoE 2 even if it had 3-4 years of content as the game's flow is terrible. Right now it isn't even in my top100 games. |

So far Poe 2 has given me 588 hours of fun since December 6th. I really liked it but it still lacks a lot of content, I like the changes too and I think that over the years it will be a great successor to Poe, give it time so it has the chance to add content and make the respective changes, right now it is just that, an EA, you can't really judge the game yet because it is still in an early age of content.

POE 2 is one of those few games that has been awaited for a long time, and with many good expectations from many years ago, it is obvious and normal that upon its recent release it has very high numbers relative to the average of other games.
Other games have the same relative numbers as POE 2 simply because they are good, like Marvel Rivals (which, unlike POE 2, Marvel Rivals does maintain its concurrent players). So it doesn't really matter, as long as you're not affected by playing the "non-shiny" of the moment, nothing happens, just enjoy the game. Venezuela es mi barrio, y odio mi barrio.

Nah mate. The dream was playing both poe 1 and poe 2 when you were done with the current season of poe 1 or poe 2 and proceed with the other one.
However we need to take account that poe 2 is in early access therefore "immature" compared to its predecessor. I reckon it'll eventually reach to the level of poe 1, tho it might take a lot of time. Last edited by Fealwen#0500 on Feb 3, 2025, 1:48:16 AM

For years GGG made it very clear they despise what PoE 1 turned into , they will try milking it until the sequel is fully fleshed out & make the former title irrelevant then they will drop PoE 1 completely .

No, games are complex things and there are a huge number of things PoE1 currently does better.
That doesn't make you weird for liking PoE2 more either, some players really like graphical polish and feel some really don't mind as long as its aesthetically acceptable. Just to cover my own preference because its so easily summarised I enjoy making builds, I can't do that in PoE2 because its fundamentally simple and currently unfinished. As that improves over time (assuming it does) I will like poe2 more and more but for character building PoE1 is the absolute peak of arpg atm. |
