They literally released the xbox port in August, 2017. Stopped reading there as I assume the rest of your post is just as uninformed.
I first discovered path of exile 5 years ago via playstation store

Path of Exile has a 13+ year history of being a 100% PC ONLY game. Every menue, every mechanic, every fight was designed to work best by useing Keyboard & Mouse. And with this in mind Path of Exile and so GGG gathered a huge fanbase and long term Supporters. Some of them spending hundrets if not thousends of real world $ Dollars.

Then came Tencent and the seduction of money.

Sorry, I do not belive GGG it was their idear to bring Console Ports!
It am sure it was presure from Tencent with the Asian market in mind.

And the NEGATIVE influence is directly noteble in several steps:

AUTO AIM BOT
If we, the player, would create and use a AIM BOT our accounts would be INTA PERMA BANED! It is a direct violation of GGGs own term of service agreement.
But to be able to play a game like PoE handycaped Controler users need it. Else they wouldn't be able to kill a single white Zombi.

mainstreaming talent Trees
The atlas tree reminds me more of Diablo IVs fireball tree where you chose 5% more damage or 5% more crit damage and that's it. Sero depth, sero choise.
But the char-trees aren't much better. Don't know if there is a heat-map somewhere but I'm sure it would look super boring as every char uses the same pathes and passives with maybe the exception of max 5 points :(.
And this again I'm convicent had been done by presure from Tencent to get their no-skill ADHD console kiddys into PoE 2.

The large, complicate and MEANINGFULL tress in PoE 1 are a big point why long term supporters like me loved PoE 1. You realy had the choise how YOU designe your char! Sure, many just copy&past builds from random streamers. But if you choised to and invested the time the most satisfying moments of PoE 1 had been when you managed to get YOUR selve made build finely running :).

Even my Day -14 Invoker Ice Monk (told my friends 2 weeks pre launch this is my char) ... I do not feel the same satisfaction :(. His gear, tree, skills, support gems look very likely like any other Invoker Icestrike Monk. It feels like there is just ONE way to do it with sero choise.

And why? Tencent & consoles!

FORCAST
Cash Shop IS COMING!

Where you can buy Exalts, Divines, Chaos for real money.
Where you get Loot-Boxes with "chance to get this super duper uber weapon".
Where you can buy exp-doubler and more inventory slots.

Tencent wants it for their ADHD army of zombi consol kiddos!
And as GGG now is 100% owned by Tencet ...
IT
WILL
COME

I

Think your history is a bit off there lmao
Wall of text incoming. Sorry.

I didn't try Keyboard + Mouse, as I can't game for long on that combo due to carpal tunnel syndrome issues, but is the game so much clunkier with mouse movement and dodge roll now? Do you feel like you're being forced to use a controller or WASD and punished because you don't? If that's the case, I'm sorry.

Anyway, I don't think the game is that much dumbed down. We still get a potential of 10+ active skills (i.e. excluding buffs), which is honestly much more than I ever used in any ARPG. Sure, skill gems and support gems selection is made easier, but that's both for controller players and KB+Mouse ones. Making it difficult or more tedious wouldn't help anyone.

By the way, I'm having a blast with controller couch co-op in PoE2. Most fun I've had in years and I'm looking forward to the full release. This is what gaming is supposed to be about : Having fun.

Tencent : They bought GGG less than a year ago in March 2024. It's obvious that PoE2, since it's inception as a separate game from PoE1 (probably way before they announced it mid 2023), has been developped to be more than a Keyboard + Mouse PC game.

Diablo IV : D4 skill tree is super dumbed down, but I don't think it's due to controller usage or not. D3 was super dumbed down with no tree at all, and that was before it even had a console port. For D4, it's a casual player related "issue": A lot of players want simple choices, or everything handed to them. This is the result, or this is because this is what Blizzard thinks players want. Who knows.

Lack of build diversity : You cannot realistically tie the lack of current build diversity and lack of passive tree depth in PoE2 to it being controller friendly. The problem with PoE2 currently is that the balance is crap and we lack more than half the skills so there are no meaningful options. You're funneled towards the very few choices that do actually work. I hope we get more meaningful choices in the passive tree though, as it feels uninspired so far. It's a beta, things can and will change.

Aimbots : The aim asist comes in the form of target selection, to use instead of mouse targeting. Did you even try it before commenting? It's not an aimbot as it will not move your character around by itself to select the most "interesting" target and attack by itself. Sometimes, it will even target the worst possible one and it makes casting AoE spells or teleport-like spells very bad as you cannot choose your destination or target easily. I used to be MUCH faster targetting and clicking with a mouse than I am with a controller, and if I could, I would use KB+Mouse all the time. There's nothing overpowered or unfair in having an aim assist while using a less precise control option, especially if the controller aim assist is built-in the game, by the devs. If it was made by some third party devs, yeah, I would agree with you.

Microtransactions : Hard to say. GGG pretty said they "kept" their creative freedom and will keep the things as they are when it comes to having cosmetic/stashes MTX only, as it worked in the past and should work for PoE2. Let's hope they keep their word. That's all we can do. Don't need to be all gloom and doom about it.

To OP: 2012-2015 was the golden era of PoE. It was a niche game but fun for that niche.

Consolization, trying to open to every casual player out there and later Tencent etc, and yeah, thats what happens.

Money talked.

Man, this quote needs to be used a LOT more on these forums.

I have to use a controller, my joints cant do long term M&K anymore. I guess I empathize with the long term supporters... it's never fun to see a game you love homogenized so the creator can make money. But they did, and it's how things go. I played Magic since 94. Used to ride my bike to the Target to get Revised decks for 7-8 bucks. The game now is not what it was, but I had my time and now it's time for new people to carry the torch of passion and competition and for me to enjoy the game casually. Life moves on. I've said this before on these forums and I'll keep saying it... it's a game, not real life.

what does it say? I'm on PC and all i see is some geometric shapes like circles and triangles.
I'd agree except the game is stupidly punishing and sets the player up to fail then take their xp, maps etc for failing.

..not very casual friendly.
Console loot filter for POE2 Please!

lost me at aim bot

as a console player, ugh....

Like you even have to aim with a mouse and keyboard, you just point. This isn't call of duty but thanks for the laugh
