What point in SSF?
" They screwed that up as well, now they are merged. Such a stupid change, wtf are they doing. | |
its literally just a tag to prove you didnt trade or party, for bragging rights or some kind of legitimacy check if you are a content creator claiming you didnt trade, or you want to compete on a ladder against people who didnt trade.
i think most people who dont trade are not in ssf league. they are just in the normal league and not trading. i think its wrong to call the main league trade league, as if everyone who plays there trades. they dont. take this from the dev manifesto.. " so most players never trade. that means SSF is the most populated league in the game right? no, afaik its a very small population. most people who dont trade are obviously not in ssf, they are just in the main league but dont trade. the actual ssf league is just a bragtag/legitimacy badge for a minority of players who for whatever reason value that. but make no mistake not trading is how most people play the game, its written right there from chris himself. im playing self found, ive played self found a lot in poe1, ive never created a character in an ssf league. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

The point of not trading is the more rewarding experience finding and crafting your own loot. Of course it's gonna be harder and slower than someone that just pay for power.
Most people that play SSF or trade league without trading understands this. |

" I do understand where you are coming from, I am no content creator, I can't speak for anyone else and I am absolutely not saying you are wrong. I personally just have other reasons. For me personally I prefer to play SSF just because then I don't have the option to trade. The temptation of simply buying something I am missing is gone. I have to farm my own currency/items. In PoE 1 for example, if I want to play an alternate skill gem, I have to farm lab for it. I cannot just buy it. This also forces me to maybe play another build first in order to be able to farm it and then transition or level a new character. The way I see it, it is more about progression. It seems smother in SSF. Also in SSF I cannot succumb to the temptation of maybe just buy some currency or boss fragments in the Currency Exchange. I am, voluntarily, forced to farm it myself. I am not sure how to describe it better. To me it is similar to a game where you have admin rights, and when you die you drop your equipment and have to pick it back up from your corpse. There is a high temptation of just teleporting to your body. This kind of temptation is removed and I prefer this. |

Well the solo part does not make sense. Since the game is designed purely to solo already.
But self found makes sense if you do not want to participate in this RMT ran economy. All games have RMT but few are as accommodating to them as PoE is. And if you think you are playing a multiplayer game you have not noticed loot/xp range. Pretty much have to hold hands with the entire party to get any credit. Or ran a breach or any endgame content where only the owner gets the rewards |

" sure. i do all that too and enjoy it for same reasons i just do it in the normal league and dont trade because i dont want to trade. but we can add a lack of self control to the list? :D i dont mean that as a dig btw, seems to be essentially what ur saying. its totally fair, i understand what u mean. all i meant to say was that they added the ssf tag at some point for those groups, but ssf was always the way the majority of players played the game before the ssf mini league existed and still is now even outside of the specific ssf league afaik. its the main way the game is played, we shouldnt look at it as something only a small number of insane masochistic players in the ssf league do. its actually the normal way people play in all leagues. the minority who trade tho are disproportionately represented in the 10,000 hour, come back every league, post in the forums, spend a ton on mtx, play the big meta builds type crowd. they may be a minority but they are a very important part of the core player base. so i dont want to downplay their importance in the community either. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Self-imposed challenge / ego gaming. SSF has no system advantage over trade league.

The issue is that some devs set the drop rates based on the trade market. They are specifically setting rates based on the idea that 1000 of them are dropped a day and 5% make it to market. It is that kind of thing. In PoE ssf, they dont adjust anything. They just make you suffer. They love punishments in PoE even if you dont die they will randomly punish you sometimes

How else are they gonna make money off of those sweet premium stash?
Cosmetics can only supplement them incomes for so much. |

The game is balanced for SSF (Yes, you just don't understand what the developers mean with balanced for trading) and finding gear and progressing yourself in SSF is not even that hard. The game is at its core a single player game and it works to play like that.
The game is not balanced around trading. It's balanced around trading with your friends a little bit but the trade economy is not part of the calculation, as trade league is the equivalent of cheating and skipping to the end almost instantly. Last edited by Kashou#2868 on Jan 18, 2025, 7:43:58 AM
