PoE 2 Latency Spikes?

Subject: Fixed Extreme Ping Spikes (20k-40k ms) in PoE 2 - The Network Throttling Registry Fix
After days of troubleshooting everything from Steam overlays to DDU driver reinstalls, I finally found the solution for massive ping spikes in Path of Exile 2. If your ping is jumping into the thousands while your internet is otherwise fine, it is likely Windows throttling your game's network traffic. The Fix: Disabling the Windows Network Throttling Index Windows has a built-in mechanism that throttles "non-multimedia" network traffic to prioritize media playback. In PoE 2, this can cause the network stack to choke, leading to those insane 40,000ms spikes. Step-by-Step Instructions: Press Windows Key + R, type regedit, and hit Enter. Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile On the right pane, look for the entry named NetworkThrottlingIndex. Double-click it and change the Value data to ffffffff (Hexadecimal). (Note: This setting is "255" in decimal, which completely disables the throttling.) Click OK and restart your computer. Result: Before this fix, my latency was unplayable. After the change, my connection is rock solid with a maximum variance of only 3-4ms. I hope this saves someone else the days of frustration I went through! |
