POE2 Cosmetics Disappointingly Expensive
" Whales want exclusivity so lowering prices is bad for business when you capture a pod of them. The even more extreme examples in gacha games they will make one off custom cosmetics/items for clients and have account managers working directly with them. Not a fan of the practice whatsoever, but there's no subscription or full priced game purchase options. Modern gaming is catering to a small over spending few while keeping everyone else around just enough to keep those few buying. |

" I wanted to call this point out in particular, as I do agree with the OP. Looking to the right, you'll see I'm not exactly someone who's a causal buy in for this game, I've shoveled several thousand dollars into this game, and other than a few things (My Atlas Hideout, Astral Mirror portal, etc), I don't use a ton of the cosmetics anyway. I don't buy supporter packsbecause I think they give me, the player, something I want. I buy them -only- as a way to support the game that is very rare in the market, and I enjoy immensely, and happen to be in the position to be able to sink that cost in. I think if these MTX would get priced to a quarter of what they are, GGG would make -more- money. I think the high price point keeps the vast majority of players from even considering buying these things. This feels like money left on the table. Paying 20$ for a single chest item that can't be equipped on more than one character at a time in a game where you struggle to see the MTX a great deal of the time, does not feel like a good deal. The odd part is I think the overall sales plan of GGG is generally good, I think that they've kept nearly every aspect of pay to win out of the game for years, and kept the game free to play is nothing but a miracle and act of pure dedication by their staff considering their dev cycle. And the actually important things, like Stash Tabs, are priced pretty well to be accessible, and the price problems only exists in the narrow band of MTX armor. I understand the hesitation to reduce the existing items down, fearing backlash from people who sunk the 200$ into getting two MTX outfits. But I think they should add a few budget options over the early days of PoE2 to test where the price points actually shift sales and where players feel like they actually get a deal for the price they paid. |

First off I'm not defending D4s MTX practices, as my point regarding MTX in general is that no skin or whatever should be that expansive.
but ppl tend to ignore certain things to make their lass favoured game look worse. When comparing D4 and PoE2 prices, ppl simply ignore the fact that the more expansive versions come with skins and in-game currency as well and thus should be compared to a tier of a supporter pack on PoE. However, there is a pricetag for the basegame and addon which of course makes MTX in that game worse. Also as OP pointed out blizz participates in the horrible practice of putting different prices on different ingame currency packs. As someone already stated, these currencies should be prohibited all together. PoE has ridiculous prices for their MTX. There is no better way to put it. Compared with destiny 2, a free to play-ish game, prices are above and beyond. And yes, even D4 prices pale in comparison. It doesn't matter how much time you put into a game. Prices like these should none normalized in my opinion. Last edited by Syvaroth#5864 on Jan 1, 2025, 7:49:29 PM

" Ironically, expensive items are easier to sell because the margins allow you to suck at things while you’re still learning to grow the business. Low priced items have razor thin margins and require you to have everything from marketing, sales, and fulfillment, etc dialed in to be profitable. Low priced will get more customers, high priced may offer higher returns. Low priced may take more storage (higher volume). Low priced may be more work (management and shipping). High price may require more cash outlay. Cheaper items allow people to buy on impulse, which drives more sales. Higher end, expensive items, will make people wait and consider the purchase before buying. Giving them time to decide against it. GGGs partner TENCENT who runs the shop most likely will not take projects that are cheap in margin which plays a significant role in while the shop is priced the way it is. Cheap items make it difficult to differenate tier. Last edited by QticaX#4168 on Jan 1, 2025, 8:04:09 PM

This is the best game in history. If anything, Tencent sells cosmetics at a discount. Also, I think the game needs loot boxes with game items, not just cosmetics. That would generate substantial increased revenue compared to cosmetics. There are so many things to improve and obviously they are working with a small team, for example with more money they could have hired someone to keep an eye on feedback over the month they were in vacation.

" Yea, i also dont like prices, but this is how every f2p game look like. Expensive MTX. And actually, u r supposed to buy supporter packs that gave u bunch of MTX and EXTRA coins that u can save and later buy MTX. Or just buy higher supporter packs that will give u enough coins already. So, its not like u r going to spend money and gets only coins. And i dont understand why r u comparing price of D4 thats on a big discount, to POE 2 thats in EA and will be f2p in the future. Yes, u need to pay $30 for an access, but u also get coins. And MTX can be shared between POE1 and POE2, so u cant look at the prices and say that they should not be that high, cuz u had to pay for an EA. Anyway, probably Blizzard earned more money on D4 than GGG on POE 1 and POE 2 for the past 10 years, but u can argue if its cuz of the IP, pay to play model or a price of the MTX. For sure, Blizzard earned more money on MTX in D4 alone, than GGG on MTX in the past year, so maybe GGG should change few things after POE 2 gained attention and big part of the market. |

To quote my brother:
84 dollars is not a micro transaction. |

" Except a considerable number of people paid for early access. |

POE 2 cosmetics are trash, looks like the same garbage lazy 2013 cosmetics of POE 1
The default "nude" character skins at character creation screen looks so much better and more modern. Too bad they never bothered to port the vanishing dye to POE 2 I would buy it in a heartbeat just to be able to play those cool character creation skins with no armor on. Just wanna hide all these ugly disgusting concord crap skins and ugly as hell helmets. Too bad GGG lied about players being able to use their old POE 1 cosmetics would give anything for that vanishing dye right about now Last edited by KingHadu#3474 on Jan 1, 2025, 11:22:59 PM

" A reminder: This is early access. If this game full releases and has the same issues, by all means let GGG know they messed up. |
