This happened because most people said POE1 is just too fast and it should be a slower game.
And these people were right. But GGG seemed to have slowed things down TOO much.
They just need to give us enought time to apply skill combos and enough time/speed to react to monsters.
GGG also slowed the game down to kill the 1 button mash meta and that is a good decision.
In PoE 1 alternating between skills or using several different ones is a waste of efficiency compared to 1 button mash and that simply kills creativity, experimentation and fun.
So they are going in the right direction but still needs tuning, ofc
Some skills/archetypes need to be a bit faster, loot needs to drop more and things will get better.
And then there are some decisions that I simply don't know wth were they thinking that just need to go back to the drawing board... cough... Trials... cough

Imo mixing these 2 genres is an impossible dream. It will never work because of the nature of ARPGS: getting loot, getting more power. And every new seasonal reset can potentially add even more power creep into the game. This game is already getting broken in half by meta build makers.
In the campaign it kind of works because your character is still weak, this is also why they recorded all their gameplay showcase videos intentionally on underleveled characters wearing white items, using gems that were lower level than the zone they were in with 0 support gems socketed inside them. They were trying to show off all these boss mechanics and "slow and methodical" gameplay so hard. But it all just falls apart because of the very DNA of this game. It's still PoE, meta gamers will still gravitate towards the strongest builds made by a few people.
I think GGG trying to make this work will be a colossal waste of time, money and resources.
You do it by making combat more weighty and meaningful and also giving more and better rewards.
Marvel Heroes managed it 8+ years ago.
They also managed to make skill rotations meaningful and smooth, and make it super easy to read combat despite all the visual clutter from half a dozen players spamming AoEs on top of a boss simultaneously.
Oh, and this was a game that launched at 12k players, cratered to 4k a month later, and never managed to cross 9k afterward.
GGG has no excuse.

Weird that, most opinions you see outside of this forun seens to be: "I Liked the pace of the campaign better".
People loved the campaign, wich is exactly this more slow methodic pace.
They don't like tho, is the endgame, wich is the more fast paced one.

Same problems persist in 2 that so many meta builds are one skill clear all. Maybe a different set for boss specifically (and more often than not are pre-casted when boss is still talking) but since 90% of loot come from rares in mapping it hardly matters.
Hard pill to swallow, but herald and trigger skills all need to be removed. It is not possible to encourage combo skill when there are auto cast options.

I like my ARPGs to be games where I solve problems with clever character building and gear choices. When a "tank" with huge focus on defense has to dodge roll out of the same attacks as a squishy glass cannon, I think we're on the wrong path.
Defenses are sadly a joke in PoE 2, both when it comes to balance and design. And that is probably what happens when the game puts too much focus on "methodic combat". I play these games to build, create, loot and gear, not to be a god gamer. But we all want different things, and I'm currently not finding it here :(
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

The classic poe2 should be poe1 version 20.24 mindset and what is dividing the community. Since GGG is not retiring 1 for 2, I can’t find a reason why hack and slash enjoyers shouldn’t just stay put in 1 and need to enforce their ideology on 2.

Yep. I ussually get bashed when I say something must be removed or else it becomes mandatory, LOL.
I remember one interview when they said they would reward people that use multiple skills and builds that are made to be almost automatic would perform worse. This should definitely be the case.
One good node that does this is the one that gives 30% increased attack dmg after casting a spell. But I feel it should be a bit stronger to actually encourage the clunkiness of it.
Still, need to see how the other classes will change the balance

We can definitely agree on that.

Fair, though I'd argue that a build you made that requires several parts to be executed correctly (ie. some kind of buildup-and-payoff) is a more rewarding play experience than one that only requires cooking and then can be executed with little skill. It's the whole reason why combos are fun. You generate dramatic tension while building the combo, then get the enjoyable release when the finisher comes out and has a big impact.

Anything that's mandatory restricts builds and needs to go.
This includes resistances as currently implemented.

I keep saying this: Add "Active tanking" skills to the game
Some skill that replaces your manual, block costs mana and gives you temporary tanking/offensive stats when you block and DOUBLES the bonuses on a timed/perfect block
If they don't develop something like this, it will be either:
A) Tanks don't actually tank when you need most
or
B) Tanks tank well and pro players will find a way to make unkillable tank builds
