-10% exp exists for a reason? then why does it arbitrarily start at lvl 70? What's so special about it? The only reason it exists is to annoy people.
its there to tell people that their build sucks. if you want to die through the maps and content and still be rewarded with the same results as somebody else with a good character, the fault is on you, not the xp loss.
How exactly does it work? Does "your build sucks" message appear? Your point is kinda... unconvincing.

Literally doesn't matter what the devs "intentions" are with exp loss. This mechanic is failing to do the very things that GGG wants it to do.
It does not encourage players to "fix their build".
It in fact does the opposite, discourage people and make them want to quit. Good job. Amazing mechanic. That is a failure of game design, nothing else.
So yes, people are absolutely right when they say exp loss only exists to waste your time. That's all it does.
It did encourage me to fix my build when I was new. So clearly, "these people" are what? does not want to invest effort in fixing their character?
Its funny because, every league, when I die to something that I know I shouldn't, I ask 1st, what is wrong with my build, instead of going to the forums.

It is not. The Exp penalty loss on death are not there to punish our build, game knowleged, gear check or any other smart intention... it is there as a cheap retention time mechanic.
AFAIK mobs levels can't go far from 82. When players have a gap overlevel of 5+ Exp starts to have diminishing returns, so we have to take longer time sessions in the game to progress. Even if you are fully geared one shotting full screen at T16 corrupted/irradiated maps, a 10% exp loss can throw hours of game play in the garbage and have to climb the mountain again.
Exp loss is just a outdated, arcaic retetion tool used to keep players grindind for lvl 100 (which is not needed to play endgame, gear is much more valuable and the itemization on this game rn is hot garbage).

His point is actually very clear, you want to make it lvl100 for some reason? fix your build and it will be easy.

Yup, in poe a few leagues back i finally got around and had a mostly self made goofy volatile dead build. Could clear t15 maps and while slow for bosses, could still get them down.
So i thought to myself, finally this will be the time i will chill and get my first lvl 100, without paying the afk exp services... Had to give up at 96 since 1 levels simply took far too long to do, least from the safe maps. And whenever i wanted to have fun with some juiced maps i would unsurprisingly get blow up by a random on-death effect or some other good knows what thing. And safe to say, you can't see shit with max orbs of volatile dead flying all over the place, but it was glorious to see.
Hours to get 1 bar of exp, a second to lose multiple.
Nothing hard or anything, just an insane time waster with and insane punishment from the devs.

Yep, it's just there to artificially inflate play-time and make their metrics and tables look better for investors,share-holders and quarterly meetings. It's a cheap way to force people to play for longer, and its outdated. We're not living in the 2000s anymore lol

So is this about your frustration of not getting to 100? I don't get why you would waste paying for a service for them to level you. Is getting to 100 that meaningful to you? Is that why you're that aggressive with your replies because of your frustration?

Yes, people would rather pay 5 divs per 5 runs of legion exp rotas while having their game window in 800x600 and watching something on their 2nd monitor, because that's much more fun than engaging with a game that actively wastes your time by deleting 10% of your exp.
These are numbers and facts, this is why exp carries are so popular, this is why they have dedicated channels for it in TFT and this is why people get rich af by doing legion rotas, breachstone exp runs, boss carries and the list goes on. This is also why people even ask for free exp leech groups in global chat, its just the meta that emerged because of exp loss being such trash design.
That's a problem purely created by the game's bad design, it is forcing players into playing a certain way and making certain choices. It's up to the devs to fix it. Or not. Nobody cares about lvl100 being an "achievement", its just another checkmark to fill if you want some extra skill points.

So if its just extra, and you don't care if it being an achievement, obsessions to 100?
