EXP loss on death

XP loss is very punishing, please consider to remove it.
It's a very bad, dated mechanic that every other ARPG has gotten rid of and for the better. This game has so much going on for it I don't know why they are hanging on to such a stupid, useless mechanic. I just log out when it happens to me now pissed of and don't play for the rest of the day. I don't know how that's helping the game. I don't understand how it helps build the player base, how it encourages more endgame playtime or how it helps at all. It's just not fun and serves no purpose other than pissing you off. Every time I get to this point of the end game in POE or POE2 I end up just quitting until next season. If i'm losing literal hours of my time just because I want to get to one more passive that is going to give me 12% more of something so I can maybe kill a pinnacle boss.. just nah.... I'd rather just not bother. Too many games to play that respect my time better. Don't care what all these weird, no-lifer's say. It isn't fun and it should be removed.
Let's look at this from a money perspective. I consider myself a casual player and I spent around $100 per year in the PoE 1 store on things like stash tabs, outfits and spell effects. I personally know 3 people in my small town that spent roughly the same amount of money. Once we got into the mid 90's, every single one of us quit the game permanently because of the horrible feeling of losing hours worth of hard earned progress when we died. Let me rephrase: Every single one of us quit because of the xp loss on death penalty!

That means GGG no longer made any money from us. That was $400 per year loss from four people that that I personally know in a small town. It's not much right. However, how many people in my small town quit the game that I didn't personally know? Now multiply that by the number of small towns in the world. Then add in how many people in medium and large cities that quit because of xp loss on death.

Now we're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars that GGG lost because of a mechanic that sickens and disheartens thousands of people in the world into quitting their game. I can't imagine anyone quitting if they removed that mechanic. However, I know for a fact that many people absolutely do quit because of that mechanic.

Case in point: The ONLY reason I spent money on early access and gave PoE 2 a try is because someone told me that mechanic wouldn't be in the game. Now that I've personally experienced that awful feeling again, I won't be playing the game or spending another cent in the GGG store.

So in summary, keeping that wretched xp loss on death mechanic is lost revenue for GGG. My friends and I will keep an eye out on the patch notes and if that mechanic is removed, we'll come back, play the game and give our money to the GGG store. Until then, we'll be playing games that feel rewarding and not punishing.

Thank you.

Just so you're incredibly aware...GGG does care about money. They do not, in any way, shape, or form, value YOUR money over any of the other hundreds of thousands of players. You do not get to make demands because you spent a few bucks, any more than anyone else does. You do not get to make wild generalizations about small towns being the backbone of GGG's economy based on "my friends and I"...

You never mention the MASSIVE amount of people who continue to play, like the game, ALSO give them money...

If they worried about every potential dollar they ever lost, they'd all go insane, so calm the actual hell down.

^^^ This is the way brother. The loudest statement you can make is to take your hard-earned money elsewhere if you are displeased by a good/service.

No anger. Just decisiveness. Much respect to you.

Every game that has catered to the most elitist, masochistic and narcissistic tendencies of gamers has either faced decline or shutdown.

Elitists puff up and thump their chests and scream into the void (forums) saying they want "all the smoke". Make it as hard as possible. Make it a masochism simulator. They can be extremely vocal and toxic -as we see here.

But they don't account for the bulk of the playerbase who look to games as a way to relax with some learning curve/challenge and a sense of reward.

Most people don't see a videogame as a personal challenge xD

The announcement is in 30min; we'll see where the devs take the game from this point.

If they cave to please the 1% of chronically online no-lifers, then the game will remain niche. Tencent will be livid -all this funding just to make an "indie movie".

If they see reason and decide to cater to a wider audience such as yourself: a well-adjusted person with a life, career and friends to play with, they'll make far more money this way. Tencent will be pleased. They'll have their big tent-pole "blockbuster".

We'll know in 30min! Prepare the popcorn!
Agree, Ive added some support packs into this game, have had a great time through the campagin and endgame and currently will continue... Buuuut Some of these Exp Losses have actually insta raged me from stupid losses (such as server lag)

It can be uninstall worthy and despite all i really enjoy about the game, one day it will tick me over and ill think just like the OP did and consider as an adult i have few little hours of play time in my life and im not going to waste it after a week to a month of trying to level, just to fall back down to the start of level after so long of grinding. (the omens dont do enough, perticuarly since you can only use them once per instance)

Its a silly and out-dated game mechancic that will simply turn players away. Sadly eventually i feel like it will be the sole thing that will also drive me away when it ticks me off on the wrong day.
I am out going to spend my time in diablo for these types of games.. It makes 0 cents to have exp loss on these maps.. there is still massive number of adds that rush in and surround me and.... Looks like I am not alone on this assessment....
I think that anyone who trolls the forum on this topic by calling other paying customers bad players who are "entitled" or "whiny" and who need to "learn to play" should have all their characters permanently transferred to hardcore servers and lock any of their future characters to hardcore servers. These forum trolls insinuate or outright claim that they never die, so forcing them to play on a HC server should be no detriment to them.

the MASSIVE amount of people who continue to play

lol, almost died of laughter just then.

Never. EXP loss is literally perfect the way it is right now. 90%+ of player are not meant to reach level 100 and they are even lowering EXP required past 95 in the next league.
