Potential fix for multithread crashing issues from 24H2 Win update

Has there been any official response from GGG on this one?

Disabling multi threading 100% fixes the issue but man, i want to play it smooth so bad ;(
Unfortunatly not yet, but its something they are looking into.

You defo dont need to play with Multithreading off thats for sure. There is a workaround, if you are confident in doing these steps.

Launch POE2
Press Ctrl Alt ESC for Task manager
Details Tab
Scroll to Pathofexile.exe
Right Click set Affinity
Disable CPU 0 and CPU1, Press Ok

With these steps, if you encounter a crash, you will be able to alt tab out and close the application instead of fully turning off/rebooting the device. Its a huge time saver. Note, these steps need to be done EACH TIME you launch poe 2. They wont save over muliple processes.

If you dont want to do the steps, just turn multithreading off when you need to portal anywhere, turn it back on when you are playing normally.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the post Jammies, but I've alerady had this update installed since mid-november and the freezing issues have been happening since day 0 of poe2 ea launch.
Hopefully Microsoft issue a fix soon. Since i done the update its certainly reduced the frequency of the crashes, only once since i applied compared to crashing 5 times in a session.

The work around in my last post certainly helps too if you are willing to perform the tasks
Hello There,

KB5048162 installed, affinity set to 8, 9 or 10 Threads instead of 12 and I am still crashing at every loading screen in game.

Currently I simply can't play the game. Ok the affinity trick prevent me from hard rebooting my PC but man, I am so sad, POE2 was the first game in months that put me back in gaming.

Hope that there will be a fix from GGG or Microsoft soon.
24H2, KB5048162 installed. I still get crashes with full system lockup.

I'm in the endgame now, so I just turn off multi-threading to enter or exit a map, then turn it back on while in map. Crashes only appear to occur during loading a new area, never inside the area. It's annoying but tolerable.
What is wild is that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else have the exact same issue as me. For me my oc just restarts. Flat out. Before the most recent patch the cpu usage would be high regularly and now it spikes at 100 when first loading a zone but drops quickly then sits some where between 30-50. Before the patch my gpu load was 30 or less and now it’s at 50+ which seems more appropriate. There’s no real rhyme or reason to the restarts. Some times it’ll happen when there’s a lot of action on screen other times just walking around.

I’ve tried all the mentioned fixes (the affinity core thing does nothing for me as I don’t lock up just full on restart.)

If I had to guess I’d say it’s a cache issue but I have no idea where to find the cache file for Poe 2.

I’m really hoping this gets fixed by a windows update because I’m it’s incredibly disappointing not being able to play.

Let me help you all.... maybe at least.

I was experiencing this issue (the same one I think), where I'd just randomly crash (no error messages, no nothing). I WAS using STEAM.

Switched to the POE2 Launcher Version of the game, and I haven't had an issue since.

Anyone, feel free to correct me if this is wrong.... but I was crashing at least once every 15-30 minutes, if not more. I've now played for about 8 hours or more through the GGG POE2 launcher, and I haven't had the same crash once, or any crash at all.

Consider trying this, and Best of luck, supernerds! :D
