Why POE2’s Direction Is Worrying for Veterans and Newcomers Alike

Seasoned arpg player here, grew up on D1 & D2 and have at least a thousand hours combined between arpgs and souls like games.

POE2 is a disaster. Outside of graphics I have never seen a game be so slow, tedious , unrewarding and disrespectful of a players time.

POE2 is not even a top 10 arpg on the market. BIG changes are needed before I would even consider reinstalling this game. Wish I had bought a pizza with my $30 instead.

Just want to add, Id rather play Halls of Torment than POE2. At least that game is rewarding.

Totally agree with this post. I have some other gripes with some of the technicals and mechanics of the game, but I think OP really nails what makes this game pretty boring at it's core.

D4 had lots of players for it's first couple weeks too.
well written post. i think more than anything i am kind of getting tired of a focus on dodge rolling in games that has happened in maybe the past 5-10 years. even D4 has dodge roll . . . bleh.

as several peeps have pointed out, having an entire game designed around dodge roll i guess is fun for some players, but for others like me i am just tired of it at this point.

i do not mind having to block. or maybe touch a certain statue during a fight. or maybe having to use a certain item at a certain point in a fight. or other interesting mechanics. but i am just over dodge rolling . . . which means pretty much every game that is put out now is no longer enjoyable for me lol.

but very good points.

one thing i do not really understand is, why the heck did they call it 'path of exile ii'? i think this is one of the things that has led to so much confusion. if they called it something like, 'darkness falls' or some other title then everybody would understand that - oh, this is not meant to be like POE1. (although it does borrow a lot from POE1 already)

Even with rolls and movement speed buffs, traversing the world feels like a slog.

Stopped reading here. You've spent 3 paragraphs writing about how you have 9 million hours in arpgs but you apparently don't realize rolling isn't a speed up; it's exactly the same total speed as walking just with a fast and slow portion. How can I take any of your analysis seriously?
excellent points
hope these things get addressed.
I think some of your points are valid and some aren't. This is early access, so you can't expect this to be like a final release. For example, I'm sure there's good reason that we can't respec ascendancies. Perhaps they want to study the analytics on this stuff.

A couple things I'm 100% down on is the shit crafting. It's basically impossible without some kind of determination. Think about it. You can only add traits, except for chaos which is dumb. So to get a perfect item, you need to hit the trait you want at a high roll. That alone is a long shot. So you have to hit long shot after long shot six times in a row? That's a one in a million. No one is going to do that.

Second is the passive tree. There needs to be some kind of shortcut mechanic. Because there's no necromancer, I was trying to figure out the best class to play a summoner. I thought Gemling Legionnaire would be best. Good mechanics that work for just about everything. But looking at the passive tree told me I'd have to spend a ridiculous amount of points just to travel from the bottom of the tree to the minion passives. That made it a no brainer that Gemling just wouldn't work. That sucks.

I really like the pacing of combat better, but yeah, the maps are too big. Replaying the campaign for each character would probably be a deterrent. I'm one of those people who's fastest PoE1 run is about 8 hours.

Just remember, we're all beta testers.
