We need some better targeting options for consoles imo.
So, I know I cant be the only one but I feel like if were going to have "twin stick mechanics" we should at least have the option to turn off all auto targeting and auto aiming with our abilities and attacks. When they're turned off things like leap smash for example should always be at max range (because its a targetable movement ability). Or maybe make it so that each ability could have an option in the Ui to turn off auto aim/targeting, so that we can have the freedom to do what a mouse can on a controller. Like give us the cursor when you press and hold an ability to show us where we're aiming or something along those lines, or a literal line coming from our character. Or just out right give us the option to use a mouse and keyboard on console...but that's a different thing altogether.
Theres one more thing, when we have a skill placed on top of our interact function, there should probably be a setting so that if there is an interactable such as the CRYSTALS IN THE TRIALS THAT WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO INTERACT WITH, it would take priority over using your skill (idk why that isn't a thing already really diablo 1 for the PlayStation one had that lol which is hilarious to think about) but seriously I had to opt out of an ability slot just because there isn't an interactable priority. Some quality of life for controller would go a long way for all of controller/gamepad users. Also, playing this for the first time feels almost like og diablo 2, and I hope when it hits full release it feels like going from d2 - d2 LOD. Last bumped on Dec 15, 2024, 6:59:39 PM

Was literally about to make a post about leap slam. Agreed, if it could default to max distance in the direction we're facing that would be ideal.
Even better would be press = max distance, hold = no distance. Or if not moving then no distance. |

Just made a post about this myself. I'm playing witch and casting Contagion, Frost Mages' Command, Curses, Offerings, etc. is basically "Jesus take the wheel" kind of situation. It's simply horrible gameplay especially for a game released on consoles. Like, I'd get it if it was just some partial controller support for PC, but it's a console game now as well, and this level of gamepad support simply won't cut it. |

you can manually aim and attack with the 2nd stick it possible, it functions great and you can defo manage with it but its not ideal for sure
AND i have said this for years on console INTERACT FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING EXEPCT LOOT should be L3 press EXACTLY THE SAME AS TOWERS ON BLIGHT IN POE 1 it was perfect you could attack, pick up loot and still interect with the mechanic without having awkward weird interactions IF THE DEVS changed the way you interacted with:- doors potrals strongboxes Essence cache's panels interfaces in game like the Trail board NPC's in maps lore in maps etc etc and made it L3 that would be amazing just like you did with Blight Towers in Poe1 that would literally be the best QoL change for consoles ever and we would love you long time for it Last edited by WarhawkOfficial#9280 on Dec 12, 2024, 7:55:31 AM

" Disagree that it functions great, because it takes time to aim. So instead of running and leap striking max distance (in order to travel quickly), you have to stop running and aim the skill. PC players don't have this limitation with their mouse. The result is the maximum movement of a gamepad/console warrior is much slower than a mouse/pc warrior. |

There is a hotbar option that let's you change targeting to a focused mode. It's a little bit better than the default. You have to put it on you hotbar, it's not a setting in the game.

Seconded.
I ran into the issue most acutely while getting my ascendancy. In the mission to click on the gems and then run to the next, if there is a monster near by, you can’t click on the gem. (maybe time trial?) You have to kill each and every monster, then you’re allowed to click the gem. And when fighting is frowned upon because of the Honor mechanic, which is dumb, it negatively impacts us compared to PC. They can easily click the gem and run to the next without any fuss. Two worlds. There is also the issue for my Monk after dropping the bell, if you try to switch targets, it won’t let you. You’ll keep attacking the bell despite the input on the controller pushing in the opposite direction. We really need a way to turn off auto-locking for consoles. It’s becoming very frustrating. I do understand that this may be a problem because we’re so often running backwards and kiting enemies, and by turning off auto locking it would affect that mechanic. Which is hit and miss sometimes. Not sure on the fix, but we need a way to change the focus. It has lead to my death one too many times. |

I also wrote a Threat about it.
+1 Yeah there is an Option with Focus Mode ( Under Keybind, Touchbad down ) Its a Finger with a shining light on the top. But this Focus mode isnt working correctly. For Example - Monk and his Bell. When u Place the bell and Use a range spell or Glacial Cascade as a range hit base attack, u cant aim for the bell correctly. Mostly the Character is turning around and fireing into nothing. ( No Enemy behind you and u fire into the wall behind you ). # This apper, when u place the Tempest bell. Secondly. When 20 Enemys attacking you, the game mostly target, the last enemy u hitted before. WHen u run backwards, because little spiders are chasing u, ur PRojectiles fire over them, to the Target in the back. U have to redirect ur target with the right Stick, but it also dont work correctly, So u are always in the risk and danger to die, because u cant see cleary, what u are targetting next. I think it isnt a bad idear, that we have to learn to aim on console, but this Targetting needs a lot of work, thats for sure |
