The Mad Wolf of Ogham
It’s a boss that is unnecessarily hard. I gave up on trying it by myself and joined a group to finally get past him.

" How is it unnecessarily hard? I'm not some POE god, just barely above a noob, and mid tier player at best. I have beaten it with two of the six classes on the first try, and on my Monk, it took me several tries before I decided to start searching for cold resistance (my monk is my highest leveled character, my strongest, but also the first character I beat him with so I was less experienced in the game). It's not too difficult at all, it's incredibly fun, cool, and engaging. It just requires you to think, strategize, and plan - something a lot of "gamers" are unwilling or unable to do. It's not the game's fault people are unwilling to strive to improve and the game developers should never cater to this weak and lame mentality. To be fair, any of these boss fights can be difficult without damage. That said, it's not that hard to get a reasonable amount of damage by the end of act1.

Unnecessarily hard as opposed to what? Because it is fine for most of us who like a challenge. PoE2 is a challenging game. If you find it hard, just go a few maps back, farm and get some more levels / gear. And like most people say here, get some cold resist.
If you don't feel like dealing with hard, do as some did - find a party and tackle it together. |

The boss is over-tuned. Anyone saying otherwise is just stroking their own ego for being such a 'pro' at the game.
Act 1 is meant to introduce you to the game, not punish you. These bosses should teach some lessons but not outright obliterate. I thought Merveil was a great intro boss in PoE because of this - don't stand in the bad stuff, manage adds, and avoid spells. The wolf could teach these same lessons by slowing down a couple mechanics - the charge from the misted area, and the beams. I found those to be the least forgiving, especially once the beams convert to corrupted blood. |

There's a rhythm in the mist phase. The only thing I find challenging about the wolf fight is the start when he is constantly just charging at you, it's really annoying to deal with as a caster.

" Yep. When Ogham stops narrating, start rolling and don't stop until he's crossed the mist. |

This boss is the only somewhat overtuned thing in current acts 1-3 IMO. Not that's hard as such, but to deal with it properly you need (besides basic understanding of how dodge roll works):
- some cold res (you get one free charm, but you can choose a different one...), - decent single target damage (so the fight doesn't drag for 10 minutes, cause eventually you WILL make a mistake or just lose war of attrition), - some hard CC/good aoe clear skill (got to kill trash in mist phases, to regain charm/flask charges and not get bodyblocked to death). Mechanically it's not that complex (though still way harder than anything up to this point), but at the end of act 1 we just don't have that many tools at our disposal. At this level we have no builds to speak of, little gold, usually no trinkets, all depends on skill gems and mostly self - found gear. I think that's the reason so many people struggle on the wolf at 17, while others have smooth sailing at 13. It very much depends on drop luck. |

I have played PoE 1 to level 61 once.
I have played PoE 2 blind and beat the Act 1 boss on my first try as a Sorc. Last edited by Morfyus#0139 on Dec 17, 2024, 5:14:52 PM

When I play I want to relax. This is not relaxing at all.
You know what I can also do? Just play the games I enjoy. This just isn't for me. I'm waiting for the next PoE 1 season. Last edited by dacasid#5295 on Jan 17, 2025, 2:33:29 PM
