What happened to Chris Wilson?

Pretty silly not to properly announce it. It was bound to be revealed at some point anyway. If Chris and/or GGG wanted to avoid a fuzz about it they should have said something. The way this was handled just adds to the list of very strange decisions made lately.

*sigh* sums up my reaction to it.
I don't care kinda, Chris constantly lied last years anyway. They all kept lying and lying. PoE 1 is almost dead, so they focus on PoE 2 only, which their daddy Asian tells them. I am not supporting GGG, waste of time. Good luck to others.
Underserved. All bets are off.

Chris sold his shares and has no say in what happens with the company anymore... why would he stay?

The same is true for Jonathan tho.
PoE2 0.3 Character: https://poe.ninja/poe2/builds/abyss/character/Sadaukar-2191/Acidic_Sadaukar

PoE2 0.3 PC performance tweaks: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3852015

OS: CachyOS (Arch Linux)
My tinfoil hat theory is that Chris did in fact want to continue supporting PoE 1 alongside PoE 2 simultaneously, but this was not in fact ever intended on Tencents part. That's just speculation, but one thing I feel much more certain of is Jonathan wants to see PoE 1 die. It's not far fetched to think that these two visions caused a rift within the company.

For myself I just know I've lost a lot of the zeal to play since Chris got unceremoniously dethroned. The fact that there was no proper send off or tribute to Chris has made it very hard to get excited about either games. If nobody at GGG will stand up for Chris than all that's left is the community.

I just know I won't be spending another dollar until something official is announced about Chris Wilson's departure.

It really is strange that they didn't make any effort whatsoever to say a proper goodbye. Very odd.
Chris Wilson leaves and now we are going an entire year without a new POE league.

He obviously was very important to the company, tencent needs to give him $500 mill to come back or something.

More like people should move on and let this man live his life the way he wants to.
Expecting him to come back for money is almost as cringe as the petition someone made long ago with the "goal" to get Bex back to GGG lol
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.
so take this for what its worth, Octavian was streaming POE yesterday and Chris was asked about (if he knew if a farewell was planned, no office retirement ceremony and so forth).

Multiple chat msg's were kinda pointedly ignored as was the follow up chat about chris, keep in mind this is like almost no chat activity so its not like he missed it, even addressing a couple unrelated bits in chat sandwiched between the Chris talk. Then abruptly he said he was ending stream and shut down pretty much instantly. I went to clip it and the vod is deleted. (Or he doesn't have vods turned on which is totally possible, odd, but possible considering he's got old clips from streaming days still up).

This plus the total silence suggests GGG employees are not allowed to talk about Chris, surely this is some sort of falling out.

My personal feeling is that someone was not happy having to put resources into POE1 just because Chris publicly promised it wouldn't be negatively effected by 2. So maybe they clashed and Chris got ousted, and 8 days later that someone made a quick video about how sorry he was but POE1 was going to be relegated to the back burner for a while (which I would expect Chris to not be okay with) then he got the predictable backlash Chris surely told him he was going to get.

It really is shocking they wouldn't post even a polite good bye, but if employees aren't allowed to talk about it, that lines up.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

All very plausible. It's unfortunate too, because myself and many others in the community are not upset with Chris retiring. In fact, it's the opposite. If he's ready to retire and move on then 99% of people want to wish him the best moving forward. It's the awkward silence that rubs me the wrong way. The man was in tears at Exilecon announcing PoE 2. Now the game isn't even out of beta and he's gone and not a single mention anywhere, let alone a channel for fans to give their thanks. If anyone from GGG is reading this CHRIS WILSON IS PATH OF EXILE. You can't make us forget.
