DEX STACKING BALLISTA

I like playing stack dex siege ballista in PoE so I wanna try out similar build in PoE2. I did some research, but I'm not good at theory crafting so I post here to get some advices.

Ascendancy

I choose Gemling Legionaire since it increase stat and gem level which ballista scale very well (1-2-7-8)

Gem

+ I using Ripwire Ballista as it's more like siege ballista (note that ballista in PoE2 has its own base attack)

+ For support I use Overabundance for extra summoned ballista, the rest is maybe just increase damage, attack speed and crit stuff

Passive Tree

+ Falcon Technique:
"
1% increased attack speed per 15 dex

+ Falcon Dive:
"
1% increased attack speed per 250 accuracy

+ Ancestral Artifice & Watchtowers
"
increase maximum number of summoned ballista totems

+ The other is just try to take as much dex as possible

+ I'm lack knowledge about defense layer so I don't know what I should pick and how to balance between offense and defense so hope you guys can help me

Gear

+ There are two weapons I think of: Cumbrous Crossbow (which increase 1 maximum number of summoned ballista totems) and Pillar of the Caged God (which increase 2% attack speed per 2 dex). I don't know if I can use crossbow to spawn ballista and swap to staff to get the bonus

+ An Unique Amulet also increase maximum number of summoned ballista totems and Unique Helmet will help me increase dex

+ With rare gear I will find some crit, physical dmg, dex and some defense stat

So far this is everything I reserached, what do you guys think? Hope to get some good advices.

This is what I have in mind when I was theorycrafting the dex ballista setup too, but I'm not sure if the damage can scale for end game. The hit from ballista is very weak, so most likely we'll need to have some undiscovered interaction to scale the damage. Just dex stacking for attack speed won't be enough.
In PoE, ballista inherit base attack of our weapon so we can stack some added damage to attack to increase ballista dmg. But in PoE2, ballista has its own base attack so the only thing I can think of is gem level and global dmg increased.
you get rekt. ballistas have very low hp and are pretty clunky (as everything, but no good return value).

you will be much better of with grenades
Glad to see I'm not the only one stupid enough to try and make this work. I'm currently aiming for a strength stacking version, since all the totem nodes are over near the Brute Strength notable.

Ripwire ballistae are relatively tanky, but the damage isn't great so far. I'm starting to experiment with AP rounds and Exploit Weakness on the Ripwires, which helps a bit, and if I ever get level 3 support gems, I want to see what I can get from speccing hard into rage.

I've tried Artillery Ballista a few times, and it just seems too squishy, but it probably deserves some more investigation.
After some research, I think strength stacking is good too but lacking of attack speed still very bothersome. So I plan to stack both, instead rising one stat to very high I think I will split between strength and dex.

I'm not sure it will work, it will take me some time to test.
Hiya,

I'm working on a Ballista build too. I think I am level 35 at the moment. It's a lot of fun the play style but now working on the meat and bones of it. I've been swapping support gems in and out, testing things. It was interesting to read about DEX stacking ballista. Anyway, I'll post on anything I learn on my testing. Good luck!
Ok, new update: I'm messing with artillery ballista and glacial bolt, and that feels pretty good. Artillery with martial tempo, fire pen, and primal armament, and Glacial with fortress and cold infusion. I also just unlocked Siege Cascade, which combos decently with Glacial Bolt, since it counts all the ice wall sections as targets. The only problem now is that I don't have the mana to cast everything when I'd like to.

I've got a few decent fire notables close to my totem skeleton, so I'm going to try picking them up and see how it does.
New Update: strength stack version using Irongrasp feel pretty weak with 400 strength. Its damage is just not enough even though spending almost all passive in damage. Defence is very weak due to no bonus hp from strength and spending too much passive points to increasing dmg.

I wanna try dex stack version but I doubt it will be better since there are no source to scale dmg from dex beside attack speed.

There's a version stack int with using this unique gloves (it can use in dex stacking version too) but I don't know how to scale defense since int equip come with energy shield and int come with mana, and every nodes increase or regen those is very far from mercenary.
I dont want to break the party but the reason this discussion is kind of funny is that neither dex or str give power to the balista

Dex and strength only give accuracy/evasion and life/armor

I dont think maxing either stats change anything to the balista.... Sry guys lol
