Let's ask the real Question: Is PoE2 a better game than PoE1?
Because if it's not, then we all know how many ARPGs PoE1 killed in the last decade ;)
Spoiler
Unless, PoE2 is just another souls-like, in which case; carry on ;)

When the hype passes, there will be a more objective picture.

I always assume that the majority of people who call PoE 2 a "souls-like-" have never touched a FromSoftware title or similar. Weird.

It is a good game.
I think i would call it PoE inspired. It is better in many ways still playing it and assessing it but id say so far, It is. |

" Yeah lol, these people think difficult game + dodge = souls like, they probably never played any souls like. As for OPs question, poe2 doesn't need to be better or worst than poe1, its not replacing poe1. I think op missed that. IGN: Ziggro

Absolutely not in its current state. I expect the player counts are going to plummet in the coming week or 2 once the honeymoon phase wears off and people come to their senses and realize this shit is just not fun at all. Getting no loot is not fun. Getting no currency is not fun. Walking at a snail's pace through giant maze maps with no movement skills is not fun. Taking forever to roll around and kill bosses with most builds is not fun.
This game is gonna be a flop unless major design/philosophy changes start happening. Last edited by dylan33#3435 on Dec 9, 2024, 10:13:24 AM

Hard to say, poe2 doesn't have much to do anymore with poe1.

What Arpgs did PoE kill? It didnt kill D3 or D4.
Time and lack of expansions is the only thing that killed D3, and contrary to popular belief, D4 is actually popular outside of this forum. |

After getting to cruel, PoE2 is a pretty tedious ARPG but it seems it has aspirations of being a Souls like game, which, by comparison, it also isn't the greatest at. If I Wanted to play Elden Ring or Souls....I'd just go play those infinitely better games?
They got big open maps like souls games, but forgot most souls games had more than 2-3 extra things to find. They got dodge rolling, but pretty much compensated by spamming AOEs all over rather than anything coordinated. They have build diversity, but locked it behind 40 levels of really tedious gameplay before you get some real options for skills. I pretty much called it quits when I realized endgame maps are 1 death cause I just don't really care and would rather play PoE1 at that point. All it did well was make me want to play Elden Ring again cause as an ARPG, this is missing a lot of what I enjoyed from PoE1 Last edited by Necrotekk#4404 on Dec 9, 2024, 10:31:16 AM

"Honestly, for what it was, D3 was also a good game. Initially RoS was well received and it took them a couple seasons before powercreep got out of control. But even then, it was fun every now and then. Nothing ground breaking but the good old reliable, checking out the new seasons here and there, blasting some grifts and giving the changed / new builds or sets a spin. D4 is in a similar boat. I don't get the constant need to compare ARPG X to Y and vice versa, each and every game fits their own niche and is good at that. |
