Notepad++ shows 120 hits for the word "decompress", which essentially means 60 crashes. It has progressively gotten worse. Basically I'm now at the point where launching the game has crashes more often than not on launch, then again on Login, then again on character/zone load. If I can get in, I can battle to my heart's content, but changing instances pretty much has me resigned to loading another round into the cylinder and spinning it.

I've tried the stand-alone and Steam version.
I've tried deleting and re-downloading both.
I've tried updating the firmware on my NVME.
I've tried a different older SATA SSD.
I've tried Vulkan instead of DX12.
I've tried playing with reduced video settings.
I've tried playing with reduced audio settings.
I've tried rolling back my Nvidia drivers.
I've tried disabling the Windows Game Bar.
I've tried letting the GGG gears spin vs. clicking in quickly.
I've tried deleting the AppData/Roaming folder.
I've tried opening my case, reseating all components, and wiggling wires. I've checked my fans.
I've tried turning it off and letting it cool down.
I've tried superstitions.

Specs:
CPU: i7-13700K
GPU: GeForce RTX 3080
RAM: 64GB
MoBo: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX U3E1 (updated BIOS FK)
"Intel Recommended Settings Mode" fixed 13th-gen issues in Oct
OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2

EDIT: Grammar mostly
PS - I'm actually loving the game ... and getting great FPS when I can get in

I have now also tried:
  • Disabling XMP in BIOS
  • Double and triple-checking that the Intel "fix" is still in effect
  • Running the game in DirectX 11
  • Using my old GeForce 1070
  • Moving my NVME drives around
  • Monitoring thermals, voltages, etc with Intel XTU
  • Monitoring thermals with Speccy
  • Monitoring everything with HWINFO64
  • Fullscreen instead of Windowed Fullscreen
  • IntelBurnTest - both single and multicore
  • OCCT - 1hr stress test
  • Deleting and reinstalling Steam version yet again
  • Deleting and reinstalling standalone yet again
  • Disabling the Discord overlay
  • Running without Discord at all
  • More superstition

I'm fairly certain I've ruled out processor, RAM, NVME, video card, and by extension probably motherboard. I really don't know what else to do at this point.

POE2 has been running in the background at 135-144FPS while I typed all this just fine, and I've left it run for like half an hour before. When I finish this zone and go to the next one I'll be pulling my hair out again...
Reporting back that I have finally found something that works for me. It was not CPU related, but disabling XMP so my DDR5 only runs with 4800Mhz makes it run stable.
Updating because I've taken another stab at getting my prime rig in use today on my weekend, as contrary to what many are saying, video game crashing is not unique to PoE2. We need to collectively find the common denominator. None of my friends are getting either version of the crash, and just on Steam stats alone half a million players are playing it right now (also not including Epic, standalone, Xbox, or PS5).

Spoiler
I am now taking the plunge on a Windows reinstall, but I have strong suspicions it won't fix a thing...
Windows 11 fresh install did not resolve it

I don't get a hard crash like the AMD folks do. It's almost always related to loading a different zone, but I have had it now a couple times in the passives tree and loading the map. Usually just *poof* and I'm looking at my desktop; blink and you'll miss it. On rare occasions it will stutter, the loading GGG gears will render at 0-2fps, sounds get choppy, and then desktop.

My Client.txt gets one of these as its last entry for each crash:

Client # is always random, guessing it's a process ID, but I'm easily up over 100 crashes now and nothing I've read with "the fix guys omg" has worked. With bad luck and speed I can get 4 crashes in 20 seconds trying to get back in, and with good luck I can change zones. It does not appear to be related to whether I hold my breath or not, but I will keep trying though!

In my quest, I've tried:
  • stand-alone and Steam version
  • deleting and re-downloading both multiple times
  • updating the firmware on my NVME
  • moving my NVME drives around
  • installing to a different older SATA SSD
  • updating to the latest Nvidia drivers
  • rolling back to older versions of Nvidia drivers
  • DirectX 12, Vulkan, and DirectX 11
  • Fullscreen instead of Windowed Fullscreen
  • my old GeForce 1070
  • playing with reduced video settings
  • playing with reduced audio settings
  • disabling the Windows Game Bar
  • disabling the Discord overlay
  • running without Discord at all
  • closing Chrome
  • deleting the AppData/Roaming folder
  • disabling XMP in BIOS
  • double and triple-checking that the Intel "fix" is still in effect
  • reseating all components and wiggling wires
  • checking my fans
  • turning it off and letting it cool down
  • monitoring thermals, voltages, etc with Intel XTU
  • monitoring thermals with Speccy
  • monitoring everything with HWINFO64
  • IntelBurnTest - both single and multicore
  • OCCT - 1hr stress test
  • BES - limiting my CPU to 95% and 90%
  • Process Lasso - limiting number of cores, limiting processor to 90%, etc
  • a fresh Windows 11 reinstall
  • command sets to repair Windows, like:

The only "successful" workaround I have used -- and this is not a real fix nor is it a circumstance most people even have available -- was to resurrect my old gaming rig. Memory and CPU aren't interchangeable so I can't even test that out, but by doing so I've at least ruled out my video card.

Playing at 35-55fps I carried a couple players through acts 2 & 3, and levelled a whole new character to 18 without crashing, not even once.

On my "good" system, I crash almost every time I zone and sometimes before even making it to the character selection screen.

I also have experimented some more. I tried different hardware components that I had available and the issue must be one of those, because it runs fine on my old system with my other components:

Cpu Intel i9 4900k
Ram ddr5 64gb 6600hz
Mainboard chip intel b760

I have no issues in other games since I rmad my cpu and applied the Intel bios fix. This is really annoying.

You just described my last 2 days. I was running the game just fine, now i'm stuck with this.
Same issue...
