CTD On booting - Failed to decompress (corrupted data)

I am getting the exact same issue. Every once in a while I manage to get in the game, and as soon as I try to load to a new zone it crashes, and my character is stuck. If I try to log back in to that character it instantly crashes.

14811359 d5a32775 [CRIT Client 20048] Failed to decompress (corrupted data)

Ryzen 9 7900X -CPU
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX -GPU
2024/12/08 23:31:32 79435562 d5a32775 [CRIT Client 31168] Failed to decompress (corrupted data)

Notepad++ shows 120 hits for the word "decompress", which essentially means 60 crashes. It has progressively gotten worse. Basically I'm now at the point where launching the game has crashes more often than not on launch, then again on Login, then again on character/zone load. If I can get in, I can battle to my heart's content, but changing instances pretty much has me resigned to loading another round into the cylinder and spinning it.

I've tried the stand-alone and Steam version.
I've tried deleting and re-downloading both.
I've tried updating the firmware on my NVME.
I've tried a different older SATA SSD.
I've tried Vulkan instead of DX12.
I've tried playing with reduced video settings.
I've tried playing with reduced audio settings.
I've tried rolling back my Nvidia drivers.
I've tried disabling the Windows Game Bar.
I've tried letting the GGG gears spin vs. clicking in quickly.
I've tried deleting the AppData/Roaming folder.
I've tried opening my case, reseating all components, and wiggling wires. I've checked my fans.
I've tried turning it off and letting it cool down.
I've tried superstitions.

Specs:
CPU: i7-13700K

RAM: 64GB
MoBo: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX U3E1 (updated BIOS FK)
"Intel Recommended Settings Mode" fixed 13th-gen issues in Oct

EDIT: Grammar mostly
PS - I'm actually loving the game ... and getting great FPS when I can get in

Possible solution related to Intel 13/14 Gen processors: try to undervolt your CPU. It fixed the crash for me.

This (sadly) is only for those having the issue on Intel CPU's, although maybe the AMD users can find something similar.

1) Download Intel Extreme Tuning Utility
2) Set the "Performance Core Ratio" from 55x to 53x
3) Apply change

Upd. You can also do it in ur BIOS, otherwise you have to do these steps after each PC restart.

It's crazy that it seems to be the exact same file decompress issue for us all, how about making it so that file doesn't need to decompress bas a stop gap?
Hey I did the Steam's verify file integrity and was able to get the game running.

Same issue here. I log with a character and I only see 1 frame of the game and CTD.

I verified Steam files after restarting PC and it looks like it got fixed.
I wanted to thank ivaneoTG#3945 for the idea that fixed my issue not only with PoE2 but with other games! You rock! Really appreciate you!

I was also experiencing random but consistent CTD's due to the "corrupted data" error. I found this same solution (the 1/2/3 steps above) elsewhere on the internet yesterday and it also resolved the issue for me completely (I have a 13900KF).

That said, there have been some major BIOS and microcode updates for Intel 13th/14th gen CPUs in the past few months. Some have reported that just installing these updates resolves corrupted data issue in other games, so it might be a good idea to start with that and follow these steps if the problems persist.

I worry that these issues persisting with current BIOS versions is a sign of a damaged CPU that needs RMA.

I don't think this is the case, at least not for everyone in this thread.

I had crashes because of the cpu in many games. Then I installed the bios patches provided by intel and did rma the cpu, I got a completely new one.

Now I have this issue but in no other game than PoE2, even cpu stress tests run without issues.
