POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Turned my computer upside down over the weekend due to this issue.

Pre 24H2 update on Win I had some weird random crashes with the game, did some standard tests to see if anything was up with my cpu/gpu/ram since it is both undervolted and overclocked.

Didn't find a single issue in any stres test (all core and cycle) or other game, not that I really expected to either. It's been a pretty robust 7800x3d and 4090 build for most major releases that last year+.

PoE2 was still playable for hours and hours. But then on Saturday Microsoft decided to give me 24H2. Result is that the game was freezing the entire computer, sometimes the mouse cursor was moving but the rest was dead. Hard reset needed each time.

So I tried reinstalling all drivers, no help (gpu drivers reset cache which made it worse on the first loading screen). Updated bios since I was running half a year old bios, no help. Tested factory settings on the cpu/ram, no help.

Well I tried all my stress tests and other games like Cyberpunk 2, Warhammer and Stalker 2 (They have good shader builds at start). Absolutely everything is both rock solid vid stock AND undervolts taken even further than my daily settings.

PoE 2 however.... goes kaboom, it's insane. It's literally what you could call a "power virus" as in it somehow places a load on the computer that can crash it when nothing else seemingly can.

The only way I can seemingly play the game is by limiting the process by stuff like fps limit, efficiency mode, core affinity, idle priority etc. None of them are a permanent fix but they do seem make it workable.

Guys, I refused to believe it but since fresh installing 23H2, all the freezes or game crashes are gone!

I was on 24H2 before since it was rumored to run better with a 9800X3D.

Remember to backup your data to another drive when reinstalling Winshizzle.

Feel free to come back when it will start again.

I will, don't worry about that haha. I've been pretty vocal about this issue, sent emails to hardware/gaming youtubers to raise awareness.

Anyone youtuber that picks this story up is essentially just a hack.

Early access game has bugs is not noteworthy, however frustrating it may be in the short term for folks who are affected (like myself).

Try on every suggestion,also re-install fresh Window11,
Lastly,I turn off XMP2.0 and use default speed of RAM.

No Freeze at all for now.

Let's Try.

DXD12 used and multithreading on.

Updated CC++, it secend lunch and without frezzes.
7800X3D
4080 Super
Win11 24H2
tried almost everything, still freezing
I have fixed this problem for the last day in Windows 11 by doing the following:

1. Launch Path of Exile
2. Ctrl+Alt+Del Open Task Manager
3. Click Details on the left
4. Type "path" in the search bar at the top (this is to make it easier to find)
5. Right Click on the PathOfExileSteam.exe
> Set Affinity
>Uncheck CPU 0 & 1 *Pres Ok*

I have had the game try to lock up and either resolve itself or close path of exile using this method. But, it has not hard crashed, I believe this is because the system is still left with some cores to resolve the issues.

Please note this is something you must do every time you decide to launch path of exile, it is also the least invasive way to handle changing your affinities as it is not permanent and hopefully you won't have to undo anything after they patch this properly.
Btw, does anyone else has this issue for PoE1 aswell?

I had it freeze like 10 times now on PoE2 and when i tried to play PoE1 instead i had it happen 3 times aswell now.

WTF

Yes, I have this for a long time. I made a post about it in October, the suggested sultion was an older windows as well.
Rolling back the Windows Update 100% fixed it unlike fiddling around with renderers over and over. Windows is absolute trash confirmed, looking forward to Steam OS in 2025. :)
