As a new player.....
Will POE2 be a little more friendly to casual players? I don't want to get hopes up to high, I really am excited to play POE2 however I am not interested in needing to spend more hours a day in a spreadsheet then actually just having fun playing the game.
Any insights by veterans? Last bumped on Oct 26, 2024, 6:10:39 AM

Far too early to say, once the beta's had 2-3 months, there can be some idea.
It will likely be a touch more accessible, in the same way PoE 1 was, before it accumulated the ton of 'stuff' currently in the game via absorbing old league content into the core game. Judging just by the core messaging though, PoE2 aims to stay fairly brutal, which may indicate they may not have many guide rails as PoE 1 does, so I doubt it'll be what I'd call 'casual friendly' but hopefully it improves somewhat, or at least does a better job of conveying its information organically to players. |

From all I've seen POE2 is going to remain a complex and deep ARPG. However, GGG is making a concerted effort to explain various game features IN GAME as you play. Still I'm expecting it to take months for even the best in the community to fully flesh out the mechanics. And third party tools are basically confirmed as Neversink is working on a POE2 filter and a POE2 POB is certainly in the works as well.
Im sure they will be more iterations before the official POE2 launch. If you can get a key jump in see what you think if its not for you come back after 1.0 and give it another go. 11y playing POE and I still look forward to every league launch. I hope it will be easy to learn hard to master thing but we will know when EA starts.
Also have to keep in mind that it is still EA not final product so many things could and probably will change. Dont get too hyped, expectations are the main source of dissapointment.
Yes, I expect PoE2 to be much better at introducing itself. PoE1's tutorials and new player aids were all afterthoughts, bolted on years after the game was launched, and some of the in-game resources are less complete that one might want. PoE2's are all being built into the game right from the beginning; GGG have spent a ton of time on this aspect of the game, and everything I've heard from players who've spent time playing alongside new and more casual players makes it sound like they've succeeded.
That said, I think that PoE1's reputation for difficulty is overly exaggerated, and it drives me slightly nuts. It's almost like PoE players don't want new players to pick up the game. PoE1 isn't easy, to be sure, but it's not nearly as hard to get into as people keep making it out to be... if you go in with the right mind-set.
Spoiler
Here's the approach that I've always taken with PoE1, and which I intend to take with PoE2: Don't sweat it. Most of your early choices don't matter nearly as much as people will tell you, and making an unoptimal choice early in the game is something you can almost always undo or recover from. You can spend a really, really long time in the game just trying out shit that sounds cool, only to switch to something else that also sounds cool, in order to figure out what actually feels good to play.
There is a pretty wide gap between the things a new player needs to know in order to figure whether a game is worth a huge time investment, and the things a more experienced player will want to know in order to master all of a game's more advanced concepts and most challenging content. IMHO, far too many people are trying to master PoE before they've played a single minute of the game, and that's just backwards. My advice to anyone wanting to try out PoE1 or PoE2 is to just jump in and play. Do not install Path of Building before you install the game client. Do not try to figure out the third-party tools before you install the game client. Do not watch dozens of hours of guides before you've spent a single hour in the game. Instead, just play the game. No, your first character will not be a build of the week. No, your first character will probably not be crushing T17 maps and hunting über bosses. But if you keep the tutorials turned on, explore each new area, soak up the atmosphere and lore you find there, and kill all the monsters you find there, you should be over-leveled all the way through the campaign and well into low-tier maps, which is long enough to figure out whether you want to master the game, after which all of those external resources will still be there. Don't let other people scare you off from having a great time by telling you how hard the game is. Enjoy the campaign, if you haven't played it before -- PoE1's campaign is bananas. Take your time, and enjoy the journey. PoE is a bottomless well, yes, but it will reward the time you put in no matter how much time you put in. Including the early time you put it. Whether it's PoE1 or PoE2, remember that it's a game, and have some fun with it. Don't worry about whether you're playing optimally, or playing the best build the current meta has to offer; one of the great things about PoE is that there are so many ways to play. Mastery can wait a bit; you can put in that work later, if you're feeling it. To start with, just have fun. And, when you've got that character as far as you can, roll another character, and try a bunch of different things. And then do it again. As Mae West once said, if it feels good, do it; and if doing it felt great, do it again. The wiki will still be there when you have questions, the player community will still be there when you have questions the wiki can't answer, and both of those things will wait until you're ready and feel the need for them. Remember, remember the 6th of December...

"casual friendly" are very subjective term and varies for every individual player.
So there will never be right answer to your question. STUPID BEAST Last edited by ERROR502 on Oct 23, 2024, 12:36:34 AM

I suspect PoE 2 will be a little bit more... Intuitive, with better in-game presentation of what's "needed". That said, a lot of things are pointing towards the game being more unforgiving when it comes to gameplay.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

Never needed a spreadsheet for gaming.
Just play the game and you'll learn on the way. No need to complicate things.
" That's probably the best way to approach games. Don't put too much stress on yourself.
the way how i look at poe2 is that its a "second chance" for ggg to make the game that they've WANTED to make.
poe1 practically started of as a d2 clone, evolved and continued evolving. but while evolving the game required the player to be fulfill a lot of requirements before being able to handle end game content. in its current state, POE is newbie friendly to an extent IF either you follow a build, or by luck the build you're working on is similar to a meta build. POE is NOT newbie friendly if you like exploring the game and making your own builds using skills that you like. POE2 seeks to remedy this. so i would say as a game the game might be harder requiring more player skill to an extent. but would be newbie friendly from a "make your own build" pov.
