Alternate game mode for casual gamers
I am too embarrassed to say how many hours into POE(5000+), and I still die to 1 shots, and unpreventable game mechanics. I just never seem to be able to get to mirror levels of anything. I love the game but the main thing I hate is losing my progress, after getting to 50% of a level especially after 93 or higher. So since you added the sadomasochist mode called ruthless, why not add one for casual gamers.
This is good for business for sure, just look as how many players are pulled toward that other major arpg that makes a boring game compared to POE and which still keeps your progress on death. So here is the suggestion. The new mode will have no death penalty or heavily reduced(1% instead of 5% per death or limit it to 5 percent total per map) The domination scarab of teachings comes back. There are some nodes on the atlas tree to enable a cheat death with major cooldown, 60 or something to that effect. I know you are asking why if there is no death penalty, well some bosses are a major pain in the bottom so for those you get one more chance per portal. While you are at it add some uniques that help us out with mods like immune to maven memory game damage if you have used a guard skill recently, sirus storm immunity, Shaper slams cannot kill you with one slam, just some ideas so far. It would be trade enabled preferably within the same game mode The characters cannot be migrated to other modes but if you played in the league it would go back to standard equivalent. I don't really care if you make the name really embarrassing like baby mode or rookie mode and make the portrait look like a baby or something like that, I just want to play a game without dire consequences, that would just be nice. As a special bonus you can make rarer items drop more often because why not, it's a game and more good stuff is fun. Drop an occasional mageblood while leveling, or mirror drop, that said it should still be rare, just a small bit less rare for fun. That sounds like a good mode name Fun mode. Anyway, I know this was raised in some form over time but I just wanted to say my piece after waking up the dogs after raging on a t17 Katarina who let me fight for 5 minutes without dying then switched to something that killed me one shot each time I portal'ed in, 5 portals later and 50% less XP, got me really worked up, which is not good for my health, so that could be the other option call it heart safe mode. Some of your player base is ageing and heart attacks are a thing that could happen when people are enraged by game mechanics. So just save a life and add the mode. :) Last edited by Ian_GGG on Oct 11, 2024, 8:40:43 AM Last bumped on Oct 11, 2024, 8:41:26 AM

Yeah I've also got almost 6k hours in poe and absolutely despise losing progress in any game.
I definitely agree about the scarab of teachings being brought back, they had no reason to delete it and make leveling to 100 boring again. Also the t17 Catarina boss spawn-camping as soon as I enter the boss room happened to me aswell, she attacked so fast I had no chance to do anything even if I flamedashed into a random direction, so I just lost all portals(even with scarab of Stability on) and the low exp I had at lvl99. Honestly this whole design of the game being so brutally punishing for dying is so archaic and outdated now, it may have worked in the past with "hardcore" mmos and so on or games like d2 but today it just doesn't make any sense. Like why punish people that consciously choose to play softcore trade? That's like making an easy mode in a game randomly more punishing lol, there is no logic to that. The feeling of losing 10% exp again and again while dying to bosses at lvl90+ is just so bad, it also forces this weird style of gameplay where you HAVE to wait to level up before trying any endgame bosses or content that could possibly kill your character, and that's just not fun. Another example is the new pirate bosses, why can you accidentally go out the portal and it just fails the encounter? Why aren't they 6 portals(at least the map runner pirate would make sense since your device literally opens 6 of them yet you only get to use 1). Or people just disconnect or crash and lose their entire crew that they probably spent hours farming the gold for, all that time deleted. What I think they could do is just tone down the punishment for death in sc trade, because if people really want the game to be more punishing or harder, you have 3 different checkmarks you can click when making a character: Ruthless,Hardcore and SSF. Let that choice be simply in the hands of the players instead of forcing hardcore mechanics onto softcore players in this weird way. That way they don't have to go through the effort of creating a whole new gamemode, all they have to do is make sc trade not punish players for dying so harshly, maybe add some atlas passives that make a boss easier or something I dunno. I've also pushed for practice modes for bosses, they could do a keystone that just lets Kirac give you invitations for bosses but they drop no loot, so you can just keep practicing them until you learn them without worrying about losing your invitation which costs currency/time. I really think softcore has no reason to be this harsh or punishing, and that they could attract more new players and keep more players in the game by making some changes like this. And if a player wants more punishing gameplay/more challenge they always have the choice of playing in the other modes.
I used to fight against this idea out of concern from splitting the playerbase but that's really not a good excuse for me anymore.
+1 Not for me but i know a lot of people want this, a lot more than some might think. Innocence forgives you

Already exist and is either called standard trade or temp league sc trade.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid on Oct 3, 2024, 7:15:14 PM

" No, That's just your opinion of Standard & Standard Challenge League which are the core gamemode of the game. (the default experience) There are so many threads asking for it in just the last couple years that there can be no confusion what is being asked for here. Innocence forgives you

" Yep exactly, people are just tired of things like the exp penalty for example.
+1
this mode would certainly be more popular than ruthless mode |

i outright feel that opinions like pashid's do a great deal of disservice towards poe community as a whole.
people are giving a suggestion to make a totally new mode that caters to people who LOVE poe and want to continue the game albeit in a casual manner. instead he brushes it off saying we already have it in the form of std. that is entirely dismissing the entire suggestion. [Removed by Support] tho i would say it could take away dev time from GGG, but thats for GGG to decide. not you. as for the suggestion itself for adding a "casual mode" +1 but as mentioned by OP its a "void only" sort of thing so it could warrant a more generous loot droprate. I've been wanting that since around 3.15 but I doubt we'll ever see it. We'll just continue to see more skills nerfed and mobs buffed.
It's all part of The Vision™. The nerfs will continue until morale improves.

" 100% this. Cant get more casual than it already is. Edit: After reading some of the OPS suggestions, the first paragraph is just wanting death to mean nothing. And then essentially wants cheats for failing mechanics (memory game immunity lol) No, just no. Mash the clean Last edited by Mashgesture on Oct 4, 2024, 1:40:31 AM
