Mtx in poe2 that players didn't pay for
Carrying over PoE1 mtx into PoE2 made sense when it was the same game.
Now PoE2 is a completely new game separate from PoE1. Normally there is no obligation on developers to carry over mtx in a sequel. I won't be surprised if GGG decides that carrying over mtx is too much hassle and abandon the idea altogether.
" There's no difference or distinction between MTX you bought and MTX you gained from another source. They're all part of your MTX collection, which the company has committed to allowing you as much use of as they reasonably can in the second game.
Apologies for double post, but:
" Path of Exile 2 is no longer sharing an endgame with the first game, but it's not really correct to say it's a completely separate, entirely unrelated game. The two games share the same base code and the same asset pool; "Path of Exile" is at this point a single giant blobular chunk of code that encompasses both games. They both pull from the same resources, including a player's MTX collection, and an account for one game is almost certainly an account for the other game as well. It's not a matter of "carrying over" MTXes. It's a matter of ensuring that there's no bugbears or gremlins from old PoE1 MTXes interacting with new PoE2 code, and trying to figure out if old skill skins can reasonably be applied to new PoE2 versions of the skills that may well have more rizz than the old skill skin can handle. Frankly, I'm expecting a lot of PoE1-era MTXes to look inarguably worse than default PoE2 assets anyways. A fifteen year old armor skin MTX made in PoE1's infancy simply isn't going to compare to the basic gear skins produced for the new game. GGG will let you use that old ugly skin, but I wouldn't be holding my breath for graphical updates to ancient MTXes. They very well might, this team has proven it's willing to go a lot of extra miles to deliver the best experience they can, but still.
For sure.
Similarly in CS2(Counter-Strike 2) old weapon skins transferred from CS:GO(the old game) to CS2(the new game), but they are using the old weapon 3d models. Default guns in CS2 use updated, more detailed 3d models, not only textures. However, some old skins were updated to the new gun models. I guess, we have to wait and see, but I am definitely looking after that new Path of Exile 2 cosmetics "drip" - the new MTX will look fire, from what I've seen I'm 99% sure of it.
When the split between PoE and PoE2 was announced at Exilecon 2023 Jonathan said that all MTX will be shared between the games. I think that's the statement 1423r (laser?) was referring to.
YT Link: https://youtu.be/Vvah-HfhkYc?t=7582 AFAIK there has been no communication by GGG that says otherwise. I don't think they'll go back on that promise. That would create massive backlash from the community. Last edited by twostroketom on Sep 13, 2024, 6:38:04 AM

" Really good Snorkle response you are convincing me with this honestly or at least heavily balanced the scales as i really can't dispute your reasoning. I think i've been around too much commercial triple A recently that would never even think twice about selling you the same MTX twice regardless of potential barriers or blowback. " "Unless it's hyper specific to the content of one of them" - and then he immediately uses an example of a bear transformation. Seems pretty clear what he's saying there. Win 11, RTX 4080, i7-13700K, 32GB DDR5-6000, 7000 MB/s SSD, 4k Ultra

" This! There are SO MANY skins and MTXs in PoE that fall under the "hyper specific" category. Pets, skills, auras and so on. We're probably talking hundreds of skins belonging to "hyper specific PoE 1 things" that PoE 2 won't have. These will of course not 'travel over'. That said, pets would be VERY easy to just throw in there. And certain iconic "milestone pets" will probably get priority. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" Pets are probably trivial. If you actually take a closer look at them and compare them to PoE's graphics at large, you will notice that they look much more like they belong in PoE 2, which makes me inclined to believe they were modeled first for PoE 2 and then ported over, however that is done. I am more concerned for the really really old stuff that very clearly does NOT look up to par with poe 2.
Some of the early stuff looks REALLY dated and considering how important establishing a visual base line is for a new game it seems perplexing to let such comparatively ugly mtx into poe 2. Like yes they could port over some of the early supporter packs. but have you seen stuff like the original grandmaster models? that armor stretches like fabric and is both low poly and mega pixilated. Heck you can just look at the beta pets and see the pixels and polygons on them from outer space. Why you put them next to some of the really detailed new stuff? Makes no sense to me, nor does .. remaking them make much sense. Although I just do not know how many of the old pre poe 2 stuff exists since the output of GGG was much lower in the early years.
