Jonathan's recent interview makes me wonder if GGG might be at odds with itself.

Foreverhappycharan! I love it.

Only half-trolling, friend. Always only ever 'half'. Because I reckon GGG very much moved the goalposts with the word 'melee', more than once. They took a word and gave it their own meaning, and because this is their playground, their meaning is the only one that counts.

And now that they control what the word means here, it can't technically not be fine -- all they need to do is change what it means again to fit the idea of 'fine'.

It's all a little Orwellian. Just a little.

The thing that baffles me is they are demo-ing slow, deliberate gameplay with meaningful encounters like elaborate bosses, but people keep qualifying this with "keep in mind this is the first few acts leveling, we will be zoom-zooming by endgame.." and, having not played any alphas myself, it's hard to know if it's poe 2.0 or an attempt at something different.

if you actually listened to interviews you would know, tldr:
poe2 will be slower, no more 1200 movement speed inverse chill zoomers, expect uber juicers to be moving at 150-250 movement speed even with maximum investment in speed. Yes you will still be able to zoom, but no longer will you be moving so fast u cant see anything
GGG have had their Herman Li moment. Time to show they can do an Eric Johnson.

Spoiler
Herman Li of Dragonforce is infamous for his speed guitar skills. Eric Johnson is considered one of the most technically accomplished guitarists in the world today, even at almost 70 years old.

They both featured on Guitar Hero 3 as 'expert' songs:
'Through the Fire and Flames' and'Cliffs of Dover'

But only one of them works at more than one tempo, has an insanely clean tone sound, and is a rite of passage for all serious guitarists.

Amusingly neither can be played live perfectly by their original performers/composers.

What i'm interested in is what will be the central hub for endgame activities in PoE 2.

Right now it's the mapping system which is physically disconnected from the campaign acts. Yeah sure the map device itself is physically there but we never return to the actual campaign acts to access endgame activities.

Maybe in the next game the campaign itself is the new main hub for endgame activities where there are multiple points of interests (scattered over the various acts) that give access to different kinds of activities players can enjoy after finishing the campaign (aka beating all campaign bosses).

poe2 endgame will be same as poe endgame, the only diference is that instead of rares, it will be map boss that will be hard to beat, they are going for 1/3 loot from monsters, 1/3 of loot from map boss, 1/3 of loot from league mechanic. As well most existing endgame mechanics like heist

Also, kinda hard for an organisation to be 'at odds' with itself when the old visionary is for all intents and purposes MIA and the new one is like "Full Steam Ahead!"

I think the OP was spot on and the reason Chris is MIA is because he is so at odds with what the company now wants to do. I think it was a bit of a hostile takeover so to speak, it seemed so abrupt and in line with all the shares being sold to investors.

Just a tin foil hat theory of course.

I choose to believe he's finally taking that break he earned so long ago. I could probably find out, but knowing the truth isn't really going to change my life, so I'll embrace my happy possible-delusion for now. :)

How many leagues did it take POE1 to go from launch to zoom zoom? POE2 may need at least half of that to reach the same end. If we assume the launch is in first quaarter 2025, then GGG will need three more leagues in that year during which they will be adding and changing things.

I would expect lots of what seem as empty spaces that will be filled in as the new leagues unfold.

one key diff between poe1 and poe2 is GGG was a budding company. funds were not constant and they did not know if poe would even work out. if they saw players enjoying something they leaned into it rather than prune it away because keeping them happy meant more chance for revenue.

now GGG is an established company and POE is famous for being one of the top ARPGs in the market, they can finally make the game they wanted to make without allowing their vision to be compromised in order to secure more funding.

for sure if the game becomes too slow the community would be upset. but GGG has something to fall on.

they can continue developing POE1 to cater the zoomers if thats really making a lot of money.

poe1 is very solid as is. and i m pretty sure if poe1 enjoyers hated poe2 they could always go back to poe1.

personally, i m done with poe1. if poe2 doesnt do it for me then i ll be off to d4 or GD/LE/TQ2.
