Buff melee
" The problem with melee is that GGG can't understand the basic fundamental fantasy of a melee character. They should have the overall least deaths and be the hardest to die with. Ranged is always a glass cannon squishy to make up for their ranged attacks in every other game ever made. The opposite is true in POE. Melee dies more than ranged by far and to make it worse melee has to invest heavily into defense just to even be playable. Melee attack gems should give an inherent % Global damage reduction since GGG's combat design is the most rippy anti melee crap I've ever seen and 90% of it doesn't even apply to ranged since the mobs code doesn't even engage a ranged player one shotting it from a distance. Melee needing accuracy stat makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. POE is upside down world. | |
" Not like I'm the best player by any means, but unless I'm doing something wrong my slayer's pob has me at 33k ehp and I've done all bosses up to ubers just fine. Yea softcore portal strats on a couple but it feels fine. And that's with both bladestorm and perforate so it's pretty much as melee as you can get. | |
Biggest issue I have rn with melee is the amount of time it takes for your attack to swing vs when it actually hits the enemy. If your melee ability has any type of travel time it can literally miss just because the monster ran up to you by the time you swing your slow weapon. Yeah I know you can just scale more attack speed or w/e but that's just not completely ideal when playing something like bleed lacerate where you want to scale your physical bleed damage.

They could "accidentally" make a melee skill get the trans penance brand treatment and sneeze on the extra 0's for its damage effectiveness just for a league :p might be refreshing.
My biggest melee gripe this league was my poison prolif viper strike nut made the game crash and on HC that is a dealbreaker (straight to standard when it happened at the wrong time) I would personally say this league was a good bit better for melee than previous ones though, the league specific boosts really helped to round it out and while sure bows got yet more projectiles for yet more clear many of the power options pushed melee from OK to Good as long as you weren't comparing to said bow builds. Basically for once I disagree, as long as we get enough similar league specific power next league melee is in a decent spot. General buffs would be welcome but at the current level its not bad. |

" You mean like the vengeant cascade incident a few leagues ago? People were complaining just as usual despite that. Unless EVERY melee skill gets that treatment the complaints ain't gonna change. We've had several cases over the last years where melee skills were on top but they were written of as exceptions/not melee and the complaints continued. Vengeant cascade didn't really boost melee though so the melee were still left out, now i'll grant it slapped on some skills that basically became melee like splitting steel but it isn't like your big bonker was performing better it was fundamentally a cheese for spells/ranged again, just that the ranged/spells that work in melee range also got it.
They don't really always complain it was pretty quiet when Slams were the thing - but most of the time sure its never gonna work for everyone All I really want is some options, and for those options to change sometimes - this league accomplished this great in my book. And yes Aynix people will play TS until its gutted that isn't really relevant, you aren't trying to get the zoomers to play melee the goal should be to get the melee enjoyers to play melee without feeling they are too gimped. Some of them will play TS anyway, they are idiots but plenty will take a speed penalty for an enjoyment bonus. As I mentioned above when slams were hot TS was still a rocketship but players don't mind as much when there is power elsewhere. |

Well, i'd consider frostblades, molten strike and volcanic fissure melee so i guess that's my mistake. VC literally bumped my Molten Strike Ascendant back then from "can do red maps just fine" to 7/7 uber killer with one anoint. Can't get much more busted than that honestly.
