This game has definitely went overboard with the on-death mechanics.
" People here defend everything, then talk like they are playing high level League of Legends or some other similar E-Sport title. This game is 1 step above Clicker Heroes as soon as your build comes online. But people talk like they are sweating it out in an E-Sport. Last edited by Destructodave on Dec 27, 2023, 10:10:33 AM

The exaggerated on-death effects are just a biproduct of the real problem; recovery.
In a game where you can heal from 1 to 20k life/ES/whatever in a matter of hundreds of a second, the only real threats are those don't allow you to fight back, be that on-death effects, one-shot mechanics, stupid phasing boss mechanics, misplaces mazes, memory games, ground effects (I could probably go on here). Sadly, this is the route GGG went with, and there's no turning back now. Me, and several others, were expecting a nerf to recovery mechanics a while back (can't remember the league), but they actually doubled down by adding more leech, recoup and life recovery on the tree. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

I absolutely hate on-death effects, but since they keep introducing more and more of it, it's either you get used to it, keep dying to it or quit the game. I decided to get used to it, I don't die to it anymore. It is what it is.

IT wouldn't be such a problem if we could actually see more than 10% of them

I used to dislike them, but then I stopped playing characters made of paper, and now I just ignore them as they do no noticeable damage to me. On death effects exist so that people who clear the entire screen instantly still have a reason to build defenses. Some people take the hint and make their character able to deal with the mechanics, some people just complain about their glass cannons dying while they eat a sandwich on a pile of corpses with -60% chaos res.

Come on GGG has to kill players or it's too easy. Death of effects are just one of the many ways developed to counter the player power GGG have given the players. Even 3.15 didn't go far enough in curtailing the power. Killing players is important. Maybe GGG has gone too far but the game is so unbalanced who can tell?

" LOL. Most on death stuff like "Exploding crystals on hit" will just oneshot anything no matter of tankiness. |
|
" If you don't have a problem with Exploding crystals on hit you surely haven't played melee in HARDCORE. When you find a single rare monster with that mod yeah it's fine, you see it, you dodge it. The problem is when you are fighting dozens of mobs, 3-4 rare mobs at the same time, you don't have the time to read all their mods as everything happens so fast and fonts are so small. I often died to those crystals without even having a clue I was sitting on them as the screen was completely clutterd by other stuff. Other on death stuff like caustic orbs are fine as it's impossible to not see them... but those purple crystals are absolute cancer. Last edited by FrancescoV on Dec 28, 2023, 5:47:22 PM
