Are we being gaslighted?
So, GGG triple-nerfed almost every gem out there by removing enchants(helms)/alternate quality/gem-specific jewels and everyone (including me) recognizes the gems they're revealing aren't even one-third of the power lost in many cases. I even said the two-handed Molten Strike meant we're Binding of Isaac now, having to count how many attacks until the boom because not all of us can afford the awakened/forbidden jewels to take advantage of it. That got me thinking, though.
The most recent BoI expansion, Repentence, hid the true scope of the DLC: tainted characters. What if GGG is hiding the true scope of the Labyrinth and new gems? Look at the names of the gems - all have suffixes, like magic items, but no prefixes. Seems to me that would've been an easy spot for anybody. If someone proposed something this limited, everyone else at the meeting would've asked, 'So, where's Poisonous Spark of the Nova?' Maybe it's something like: normal lab gives minor suffix, cruel lab gives minor prefix, merciless lab upgrades suffix to major (which might be why you're seeing darker gems with more powerful abilities) and eternal lab upgrades prefix to major, getting back most of the power that was lost. It'd be just like GGG to make everybody run all four labs for each gem they want upgraded... and to punq somebody for playing the exact same gem EVERY LEAGUE since closed beta. Now you dont need to bother with worst mechanic from the game, aka lab enchants so this is buff, not nerf.

" " If you don't mind the changes and aren't going to risk corrupting your primary gem, I don't suppose you need to run the labs more than once for the ascendancy and still get the gem transfigured while you're at it... but then you didn't need to do that more than once before if you didn't care about the enchant and didn't like/want to bother with Heist, so it's also not really a buff. I'm probably missing your point, but then you missed mine, too. |

" Ok, lotta people do, or I guess had to. This is far easier to get than a ilv 85 helm on a proper base with the 1/3 or possibly 4 enchants each with 2 different tiers. Also, now people who don't want to do heist can get the gems. Heist still has other valuable rewards but some of these were build defining. Easy buff, and now quality on gems actually has value that is relevant. Last edited by Necrotekk#4404 on Dec 6, 2023, 8:53:23 PM

Totally agree with the enchants. Most likely, they're going to be replaced by other things down the line similar to Blight and Harvest, and GGG knows players will swarm the content which adds them.
As for the min/maxing of enchanted helms, though, I think that's exactly what it is. All those helms that dropped from incubators and Blight never sold for me. I always thought it was because players aren't going to buy a lowish helm with the enchant they need because they're not interested in crafting a non-elite from scratch. I know I'd keep my unenchanted helm until I saw exactly what I wanted or run map lab in spurts, myself, when a good layout existed (or I was bored or didn't care). Am I wrong about this or is there ridiculous scrambling to enchant among the vast majority of players that I'm missing? Anyway, none of that addresses the missing prefixes. Were you sent by GGG to change the subject? MORE GASLIGHTING! |

Pretty interesting idea; all these gems are named with a suffix, adding a prefix could be fun.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did gem prefix and suffix at some point (based on some of the crazy stuff they've done previously that made my jaw drop). However what they revealed was already a crap ton of work that I imagine would have taken up their limited development time in addition to the league mechanic and ultimatum.
Also that's not what gaslit means. Maybe "are we being slow-played?" or something would have made sense. |

obligatory RF trans when?

" Nah it's gaslighting as in over the last 2+ years GGG has repeatedly nerfed the crap out of things then gone to great lengths to obfuscate it and blatantly lie to their player base by trying to pass it off as buffs, improvements, or features. Originally for years they just nerfed things and straight up put it in the change logs without any BS or duplicity. |
