Those of you who are worried that PoE2 is straying too far from its roots...

It took me a bit to realize that poe2 is probably what a lot of people want. It has all the bells and whistles that other games do but all in one package.

Maybe its not what I expected or even wanted, but that does not make it a bad game.

I am getting more confident that poe1 will stick around now as poe2 is moving away from being a direct poe1 competitor.

That's kinda the idea, yeah. There's no reason to make Path 2 almost identical to Path 1. That game already exists - the people who love it will continue to love it, continue to play it, and benefit from much of the development of Path 2.

The people who love the idea of Path of Exile but don't like the current implementation of that idea are getting a second chance in Path 2. A second game, with an entirely different implementation and flavor but still built on that core of unrivaled customization and depth that drew all of us into Path 1 in the first place.

Or at least that's where I'm at - I love the idea of Path of Exile but the current utterly batshit implementation is an utter turn-off. I can't really run more than one league a year anymore without remembering how much I kinda hate the moment-to-moment of PoE1, and how much I loathe the BS marketeering fuckery that drives leagues. Path 2 is my last chance to actually like the game that exists, rather than the game I wish existed. Without that hope I probably would've signed off for good a while ago by now.

There's that saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. It goes so well with the negative people on the forum and on Reddit, because no matter how much evidence against their assumptions you show them they'll just keep nagging

Hueh. Nope. Total poser. Why, I've never even socketed a gem before. I hadda go Google it just now to figure out the spell of 'Gem'. And 'Socket'. And 'PoE'.

Mm, but nah. I get it. I do. People love the game, warts and all. It's real damn hard to tell sometimes in this festering cankerhole, but they do, and Grinding Gear making a new game that does so many different things feels like a betrayal. Why doesn't Grinding Gear love the game as much as they do?

I just hope that a few leagues in, when support for Path the First not only doesn't dry up but starts blooming because all the heavy lifting for Path the Second is done and those resources can be reallocated, that people will chill, and realize they're being given options, not losing them. Like the second game but not the first? Play the second game. Like the first game but not the second? Play the first. Like both games? Play them both, and my condolences on the loss of your free time.
