XP death penalty in POE2
Oh 100% penalty also if you die during a boss it resets the entire boss encounter; What you think they're going to remove the penalty via leveling? fuck no and it should be like that.

Now that they have gold in the game they could introduce repairing for a reasonable price. I really don't like the backwards progress xp penalty. It is not good to lose hours of progress all the time.

Penalty for death is one of those things for GGG. No commentary on from GGG is almost guaranteed to mean no change. Why? Because everyone who has played this game a long time assumes it stays and the only way that changes is if GGG states otherwise. I would venture to guess that we will get an AH before they remove the death penalty, and we are never getting an AH. You may expect an official response, but don’t hold your breath. Probably. And arena resets on death so no portal spam. You die once you might just as well close the portals and reset a new map.
One thing GGG focuses on very, very closely is how annoying they can make things in the game. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. | |

I'm pretty sure it's part of their design philosophy, among stuff like their trade model and no alt leveling, so that'll probably not gonna change.

Poe2 is a different game and they try to make it more approachable for the mainstream.
Removing xp loss is not a bad thing considering it takes forever to reach lv 100 and if you die you lose out either way and there are consequences. Also in current state most players quiting the game once they reach endgame is once they reach the death/xp wall where you cant progress anymore if you dont play tanky build as you lose far more xp than you gain, unless you go to discord and pay power levellers to taxi you to 100. I almost always quit seasons when I reached that until a friend of mine told me i was doing it wrong and I should pay and get a taxi to 100 from discord, as its impossible in average build to reach 100, or if the build is squishy. |
