why PoE is dying

Death Recap

Would be a nice feature but it wouldn't solve much tbh...

Good players know what they died to most of the times. It's just that few builds can cover all the possibilities to prevent spike damage. And in PoE, most things that manage to get through the "crack" in your armor are going to hit very hard.

The main things that kill you are:

1 - Physical damage from attacks AND spells.

A char that has high evasion will still take full damage from a physical spell or an attack that hits if he invested 0 in phys damage mitigation.
Spell suppression is amazing because it reduces phys spell dmg by 50%. Spell phys damage killed a lot of people before spell supp was invented.

2 - Debuffs and/or combination of monster mods that stack togheter exponentially. Let's say you have a char that has decent armor resists and 100% spell suppression. Let's say this char enters a map that has ONLY 20% extra monster damage as a map mod. This char gets cursed by vulnerability and a pack of mobs with powerful crits manages to crit him. Depending on the mob type this char will be dead because he couldn't get curse effect reduction or reduction of damage from crits because he wanted to get ele immunity + 100% spell supp + decent armor. Ofc most monsters wouldn't kill him even with the vulnerab curse on, but some sure would. Most of the time it's too hard to cover all the gaps when it comes to defences.

3 - Should be obvious but if you are playing with close to 0 chaos resist you'll die at some point. The very least would be 30%, maybe 50% for melee.

EDIT: Maybe I wasted my reply on a /s comment, lol

Mabye so, but the point still stands. Yes, most experience players will know what killed them. But having a recap of some kind would help the less experienced figure that out themselves, empowering them to make real choices, rather than feeling like they must follow a guide.
when d4 gonna hit this aQls will be late to keep playerbase
what? are they going to shut the servers next week or something? no? didn't think so.

True but this game sure as fuck doesn't help you there. The new player experience is absolutely brutal.

It's an interesting model, fully acknowledging that you have real problems appealing to new players, and scaling their experience. Eventually you can see the problem in this calculation if players leaving eclipse new player retention overall.

Since Expedition, with some outliers, PoE had been attracting more and more players through aggressive marketing, but their retention numbers have suffered equally percentage wise. I never thought it was a compliment to say "wow look at all the players trying our game!", to then see "wow I guess most people don't like it."

Either way we will find out in around 4 weeks how many of those casual players want to continue their PoE PhD studies, or just move the fuck on with a game that respects their time more.

Would have bailed on this game had my now-partner not helped me learn precisely a year ago in 3.18. It's definitely quite the overwhelming experience which at this point should suggest you in load screens to bookmark PoEWiki.

Don't mean to throw shade at the game too hard though, still staggers me how much I still have left to explore in the game, as someone who likes taking things slow.

Oh, I wish I could see the faces of people like you, once you realize that game was made by a crap company that is NOT the same company that did D2. Just look what they just did with OW2.
Youre not wrong. I was as hyped as anyone for D4, but it's actually pretty bland and boring.

Very big let down.

Well you definitely won't see their faces because for one they are online and that's creepy, and two they won't be here, they will be playing D4.

Plus the leap from OW2 to Diablo is confusing. There isn't any crossover there development wise. OW2 could crash and burn from this point forward and it wouldn't impact the Diablo IP.

D4 will be fine lol, seriously. I know we are on the PoE forums, but damn.

PoE is dying because 5 of the last 7 seasons have been an unbalanced mess that are unfun to play.

You can make as many excuses as you want. Just look at their track record for the last, what, 4 years? What was the last acclaimed game that came out from whatever that company is now?

Sorry, I don't want to make you come back 2 decades or so. What was their last release that wasn't completely trashed by fans and critics alike? Yep... apparently you even forgot Blizzcon 2019, Immortal and that great "don't you guys have cellphones" moment.

And, again, I wish I could see your faces the moment reality hits you in the face. Your posts about that game are nothing but wishful thinking.
