Hello everyone! Am playing the carrion golem build on league and it's awesome!

This is my current setup https://pastebin.com/heUac1z8

What can I upgrade from here or which gear should I upgrade?

Thanks!

Your build seems to have zero defensive layers outside of your HP and basic resistance cap. Do you feel squishy?

If you're looking to increase your dps you should be starting to scale your crit.

This means running Assassin's Mark instead of Poacher's Mark.
You also want to change your large clusters into ones with Renewal, Rotten Claws and Vicious Bite.

You want to be running Death Attunement for x4 Spectres so you can run x2 Carnage and x2 Host chieftain so your Golems get maximum charges.

Obviously you want to be running a Kingmaker on your AG.
Also, swap Impale Support for Critical Strike Damage support. You will lose the 100% impale chance but gain alot of damage.

Doing these changes increases your dps from 16 million to 36 million so more than double and it's not very expensive changes. Just changing your tree a little and getting new clusters.

If you're looking to get the next "big" upgrade. Getting a Uul Netholds Vow amulet would provide you with alot of extra dps.

Do you have recommendations to up the defense of the character?

Thanks!

So as requested, I simply bought a 130%+ quant Tower map cause you need pack size for enough monsters to spawn. No master missions, no scarabs and no beyond either.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsdtO6zh-HI

Now I don't really know why you put so much empthasis on being able to reach 300 scourge stacks. It has nothing to do with clearspeed. All it has to do with is pack size on your maps.
[...]

Thanks for taking the time to make these videos! I guess you're right, spectres are still top tier minions for clear speed, but there are way less people playing them.

The reason why spectres are the best minions for clearspeed is because they're the only minions allowed to scale clear speed like bow builds.

Put simply, spectres are the only long ranged fast projectile passive minions we can use. Skeleton mages would be the second but we need to resummon them every 1 screen and their projectiles are pretty slow so they're worse at clearing, although way stronger minion overall.
I guess someone could make a case for Lightning and Flame Golems but I've never seen anyone make anything half decent out of them.
I saw Ghazzy try to make a mirror tier Flame Golem this league in PoB and struggling to get above 10 million dps with thousands of exalted orbs in gear, so kinda tells you how viable those minions are.

There is a breakpoint were melee builds actually surpass bow builds in clear speed though and that's when you scale AoE and movement speed enough. This is evident from the BV days in 3.13 where you could chain explodey mods with AoE scaling kinda like bow builds use Chain supports. It requires ridiculous gear though and I don't know if it's possible nowadays.

But as said before, spectres don't really have any "mechanical" problems. In fact, due to the avialable pool of spectres in the game they can almost do anything in the game. Their problem is scaling issues. Their raw dps numbers are just very low right now because they're undertuned.
The reason is because GGG had the genius idea in 3.13 to nerf ALL spectre levels by 4 levels because Syndicate Operatives were overperforming in Heist league. Majority of spectres were fine in 3.12 and SOs were outliers, so they nerfed every single spectres in hopes of making SOs "balanced".

Thing with SOs was that they weren't broken due to their numbers, but mechanically broken due to GMP shotgunning which basically increased their single target dps tenfold. Their actual projectile damage was and is very low. So now that their shotgunning has been nerfed, their single target damage is actually non existant. The problem is every other spectre in the pool was dragged down together with SOs in 3.13 and we're left with a bunch of undertuned minions that do 60% less damage than other minions.

Spiders are still an overall stronger minion than spectres, simply because they require far less investment to do decent damage. Pure spectre builds literally requires hundreds of exalted orbs to feel strong which is why they're bad.

I always advice people to fit Determination into their build and getting Molten Shell as a first step when entering maps. Those two things alone will do alot for your survivability. This can easily be fit by ditching Skitterbots which don't do much for you as you're pure phys and getting more reservation from your tree.

Second step to getting tankier would be swapping your Chest for a Skin of the Lords chest. It gives +2 to socketed skills so it's already better than yours damage wise. It alsog gives 100% increased global defenses which literally doubles your Armor and Evasion.
I would then get an Auls uprising so you could fit another Aura. This would allow you to run Determination, Grace, Pride and Dread banner at the same time. With a Jade Flask, Granite and Basalt flask you'd be looking at 40k Armour, +20k Evasion pretty much making you unkillable to phys damage.

Lastly, I'd change one of your Small Clusters for a Frontline to solve your Elemental damage problems. The Frontline is a small unique cluster that gives you 10% to max ele res and 20% phys dmg reduction when Molten Shell is active. This literally makes you unkillable during Molten Shell. You however want to scale alot of duration to make this work.
Your build already runs Enduring Bond and Mistress of sacrifice for 70% increased duration. I'd suggest simply linking Increased duration support to Molten Shell which increases it's duration alot. If you want more you can go for Dynamo and Potency of Will giving you 12 sec long Molten Shells during which your HP won't move to anything in the game.

Thanks! I've tried on your recommendations and it's a super big improvement in survivability!
Kay, have you considered a Soulwrest phantasm build?
Guys can i get a little help with my standard build Ultimate_Daryl please.
Build is a pretty standard skeleton archer setup.
I replaced Awakened Elemental Focus in my chest with Empower 4, was that wise?

Should i use skeletons in my helm rather than in my chest?

Is it worth using 2 large clusters instead of only 1?

Sorry for asking questions i could answer myself if i could work out how to use POB properly but it is what it is.
Any recommendations as to how to improve single target damage gratefully received. Thanks.

Skeleton mages are casters and don't have "attack" abilities so Awakened Elemental Damage with attacks does nothing for you. Your mages are 5-linked.

Also, empower is most certainly worse than Awakened Elemental Focus since you don't have any +1 to skills on your chest.

Maybe if you had a +1 corrupted chest you could consider running Empower, otherwise it's definitely not worth it.

If I was you I'd look into getting a +2 to duration gems corrupted Flesh Crafter and replace Empower and Awakened EDWA with Awakened Spell Echo and Anomalous Pierce.

Could start there.

here's my armour with gems i use if that helps any. seems to work pretty good for me
poe is going down fast. Diablo 4 and Baldur's Gate 3 have no performance issues. play them instead
Thanks so much for that Deadandlivin, will keep an eye out for a corrupted Fleshcrafter.

Thanks also to spaceace for your input, bit of a mindfield regarding support gems for this build. Some use volley/volley support/inc crits etc etc.
I do wonder seeing as my helm has 40% increased spectre damage could i use damage type specters?
I have tried to farm the skellie damage but i am almost certain it doesn't exist lol.
Thanks again for the great help from you guys.
