for me the build really shines since we have moving and casting. so for me would be the build dead if the cwc nerf would drop our dmg 30 %.
with the new change i hope it will work.

With the changes to CWC and the buff we are at 5% damage increase.

Time to figure out how to self-cast without draining mana...

Uh, I'm not sure we have a problem.

On Standard, I tried Arcane Surge>Hypothermia>ConcEff>Inspiration>Elem Focus (5L) and Elem Prolif.


Even with 59 mana, the mana regen is enough I can chain cast that.

Also, with self-cast, we can now cast easily at a remote location, fixing one of the main issues with the Cyclone approach (running into mobs when you don't actually want to.)

The Inspiration appears to be crucial -- 35% less mana cost right there.

Yes, I do have clarity up. And 2330 int.

Yes, I'm aware mana regen is (effectively) higher with higher int. My point was that in the cluster jewel endgame, there's plenty of regen to chain cast icestorm with six support gems. Getting there shouldn't be a problem because we've been buffed 5% even with Cyclone/CwC. So we are good.

As a sanity check I ran T16 Primordial Blocks with the Purifier, and it played fine -- just like the old days, cast and step, cast and step. Suck it up folks, that's what, 50% more dps? It's worth it... I didn't have any issues dodging things and keeping icestorm up.

Gz to kelvin for getting 40/40 again. Hopefully the new bosses are not moving so much so selfcast is a option.
For me it must have a lot more dmg if i try selfcast over cycloning. And crit i think, as the most selfcast builds are, is not an option?!

As a side question.

They told something about the ascendarys. And a change for scion. Is then scion better as witch again.

I hope not. I love the exploding for clear speed so much.

The new gems will give you one of the ascendancy features available to your class. Scion gets their list, rather than being able to choose from any other class. Witch is still probably better.

Hey guys! I wasn't playing PoE in December and January but back for the new league. Finished my 40/40 in the last days as well.

I see that GGG wants to buff self-casting. They put 30% less damage on CwC but increased the damage of all spells to compensate. For Icestorm CwC, we even get a 5% more damage as a result. Base damage got buffed by ~50%. Combined with the CwC nerf that's 1.0 * 1.5 * 0.7 = 1.05 damage.

But for self-casting that's just a pure 50% buff, on top of already higher damage with gems like Intensify and Cold Pen instead of Cyclone and CwC.

I'm really tempted to try that in the boss staff. Clear with Cyclone CwC, then swap to self-cast for the boss. It's going to depend on the new bosses. If they don't require high mobility then it's going to be fun!

Anyway, since 3.17 is a boss kill league, as opposed to clear speed, I'm going to play the Ascendant. There are no changes to Occultist, the final PoB from 3.16 should work exactly the same. I'm going to update the Ascendant with all the latest development from 3.16 Occultist and keep the discussion going in the Ascendant thread.

For the Occultist, the new thing that lets you get an extra Ascendancy node from a sister class - the obvious choice is either Heart of Destruction or Shaper of Storms. It remains to be seen how hard it will be to obtain.

still we need to w8 for scion ascendancy nodes for jewels, mb you can get profane bloom for scion xD

but Scion yeah.stun immune without aw.cwc or using nodes in passive tree
+ more int and more ES which can save from oneshots from bosses...
+ more jewel slots and easier to cap res and more skill point's )

and vs bosses mb replace stampede with decent boots int/es or highend synthes with %int which can give 1-2k more ES again so you can just stand and selfcast)

well gona try scion version, if it's annihilate bosses with selfcast and not die to much, mb witch also same +- but better map clearing)

oh yeah...one minus scion...without profane bloom clearing blight not so funy xD

They made a lot more rewards this time :-) in this league i would get them all. normaly 36 is the most i get.
