I have not played Carrion Golems, but on paper and with a huuuuuge budget, it should definitely outclass the Stone variant. Now... That doesn't mean I endorse that build. If you throw 100+ Exalts on most builds, they will shine.

Also, some of the carrion builds claim that they are only 10-20 ex, but when you actually start looking into it, you find out they crafted their own items with harvest. Harvest is a bad league to figure out the cost of a build, as you can focus on prefix rolled items and essentially mirror it with a bunch of add/remove suffix resistances from harvest. That is why harvest is bitter sweet. IMO it was a mistake to add it for the league if they did not intend it to go core. My only issue with it was that they gave it, then took it away. I'd rather it have never entered the game if it isn't going to be an option in the future. But that is just my opinion.

Back to the main point - the reason Carrion is stronger, essentially (there it is weaker in some areas) is that you have an AG. That AG, if you pump him with 5-6ex of gear, provides some truly outstanding buffs for you and your pets. Perma fortify, frenzy charges, triple curses, enemies can't crit when near the AG, etc... Insane. But, once again, the build is expensive, and if you unlucky and your AG rips... You now have another 6Ex you gotta spend to deck him out again.

I personally prefer Carrion over Stone Golem, whilst Stone Golems are great, they suck at clearing and miss the leapslam. I don't want to start a fight about this.
There is no doubt that Carry Golems are expensive as fuck. I pumped about 40 ex into my build and it is not even close to be min maxed, but it has done all content with ease.

My used gear (and I didn't played poe in weeks)

PoB Fork: https://pastebin.com/utL0iJx8
The settings within the config tab is set to its realistic state. I don't use a AG, Profane Proxy is delivering Vulnerbility and I am in no need for Fortify. Neither my Golems nor my Spectres die. And if a Zombie dies, who cares they get resummoned.

The Helmet was Fossil crafted and costed my about 7 Ex or so to create.

The sole purpose of my build was to AFK Blighted t16 Maps, which is possible at a much lower budget.

With my setup I was able to beat Sirus (AL8) with ease and skipping most of his Attacks (Meteor Maze, what?)

Don't get fooled by the PoB Damage Numbers, they seem to be incorrect.

Anyway, have a good day. :)

Hey, I appreciate the discourse. i love hearing other viewpoints, and I often modify mine after reading/seeing. The nice thing about not going primordial chain is that each of your golems have a lot more life. I do plan on trying out the carrion spec before the end of the league even if it patched together with subpar gear. I like the concept of it, I just am deterred by the huge cost. Make no doubt about it, though, I will be checking out your POB and see what is working for you.

I'm thinking of playing a golemancer in Heist. This build looks really neat, but I'm a little concerned about the cost early on.

I'm assuming the primordial chain is pretty much essential to start using golems? How easy is it to level and gear with other skills?
Not essential, you can get started with a pair of clayshapers, that will carry you a long ways.

Essential gear to get started IMO is just the jewels - Anima stone, Primoridial Might, Primordial Harmony. Everything else is just nice to have.

The Stone vs Carrion topic has come up quite a few times. I've played both, in early, mid, and end game circumstances, and with both common gear support setups.

My observations below.

Stone:
- Cheap and easy to gear
- Have to be careful with attack speed and cooldown recovery speeds
- Slightly slower clear speed
- Slightly higher bossing speed when compared to carrion golems with the same gear
- Very capable of running nearly all content and pushing to level 100

Carrion:
- Proper gearing is expensive
- Doesn't care about attack / cooldown speeds
- Much better AI, much faster clear speed
- Properly geared, much faster bossing speed
- Also very capable of running nearly all content and pushing to level 100

IMO, this build should start with stone golems and the primordial chain neck, then build currency until you can afford the gear to properly run carrions. There is no need to switch from one to the other for clear vs bossing, it takes longer to gem swap and resummon that it does to just run the map with a single setup.

For that matter, there's no need to swap to Carrions ever. Sure, Sirus is a bit harder with Primordial Chain and stone golems, but not by a whole lot. On the other hand, if you have the currency to buy the high end gear, why not give it a go, it's amazing what it does to content!

To properly run Carrion golems, you need 2 pieces of gear.

A helmet with minion life and +3 minion gems:

An amulet with +2 (total) gem levels:

This will let you run other minions, for which I am using 4 spectres:
- Carnage chieftan
- Carnage host
- They of Tul
- Arena Master

Animated Guardian - which has only died on me once in Hall of the Grandmasters
- Kingmaker
- Gruthkul's pelt
- Southbound
- Victario's flight
- Leer Cast
Only the first 2 of those is worth anything, and even so, it doesn't cost an exalt to replace everything.

Lastly, I fill out the rest of my non-golem minion requirements with zombies. These also hardly ever die, I've lost ONE at most, and that's easily resummoned even mid-combat.

Here's my current gear. You'll notice it's far from min/maxed. I don't have a useful helmet enchant, even though I've run the lab 250+ times. Quite a few of my affixes are t3-4.
Spoiler

I'm running Anima Stone, Primordial might, 2 primordial eminence, 7 perfect primordial harmony, and 3 8 point cluster jewels

The only content I have had trouble with is Hall of the GrandMasters, Atziri and Uber Atziri. And Uber Uber lab, I've run that 3 times and failed twice. HOTGM & Atziri are still finishable, but those will kill minions, I needed to portal out, resummon, and go back. Atziri takes a couple portals to kill, HOTGM I used every portal. Sirus, Elder, Shaper, Uber Elder, fully juiced T16 maps, Simalucrum, all those are trivial.

Want to offer up an update after all my questions. Finished building my character to this build from a zombies spec.
This is my second ever minion build and im having a blast with it, currently working on spawning Sirus 8 again.
One more level and i can equip the last Primordial Eminence.
I don't even know what my DPS is right know, but it's definately higher than what i had with my zombies.

Would anyone be able to check my dps for me and if my cast / attack speed is good on the golems?

Harvest offers you the possibility to buy a helmet with the "right" enchantment, put Elder influence on this helmet and then use e.g. bound fossils to finish a +2/3 Minion / Minion Life helmet. And from my point of view the +3 to socketed minions gems isn't mandatory, I had no problems with just a +2 to socketed minions gems helmet.

It's more complicated than it looks.

In order to get 4 spectres, you need level 25 on your Spectre gem for the first 3, plus Death Attunement on the tree to take your total to 4.

Level 25 means a corrupt level 21 gem, +3 levels from the helmet, and one more level from all int gems on an amulet. This is while still using the Cold Iron Point daggers, of course. If you've already upgraded to wands / sceptres / staff, you likely have a couple extra gem levels on those and it's not a problem. However, the weapon upgrades are usually one of the last things we do.

Anyway. To get +3 you need itemlevel 86, and one of those with the flesh offering enchant is a min 20exalt purchase for a crafting base. Most of the league they have been 35+ exalt for a crafting base. With that said, every "Add influence" craft I've managed to harvest has gone into itemlevel 86+ bone helms, I've done that ~8 times so far and have yet to see it hit elder influence.

And honestly, I haven't needed it. Sirus still drops like a rock, even with a totally useless enchant. :)

Guys I have 57 ilvl cluster with:

I want add to it Renewal and crafting section says Renewal is the only Phys mod below ilvl 67 but on my other cluster its says Renewal is Minion/Life, it does not mention phys tag.

Is this a typo in the guide and I should use Augment Life on it? Or how to get Renewal on it?
Is it a good starter build for the next league?
Trying to figure out where the damage difference from my PoB and authors PoB is coming from, in his PoB he has 514k per Stone golem slam (without impale, i dont have the fork).

In my PoB i have 181k, either im blind or i cant tell what's doing it.

Edit: Found the issue, PoB import didnt fill in my cluster jewels.

This puts me at 441.9k. So not too far away
