I'm sure some of you are confused by my current profile, it's because I am testing a glacial cascade version which I think would be superior to ball lightning, however the cost is way more and probably not worth it for most players. This version is also superior for hardcore in that it can freeze and shatter which is far safer than ball lightning.

After more testing I plan to make a more detailed section about this variant.

I can't wait to here the results! :)

Level 100, 40/40, and still tweaking! Great work.

Had a big day yesterday. Got new gloves, helmet w/ enchant and -resists. didn't realize how big of a deal the enchant would be. Completely helps you rework the tree a bit and the damage just skyrocketed. Thanks for all your help. Still need to tweak the boots, ammy, and belt for more LIFE.
in SSF i've been trying a build similar to this, as in ball lightning miner with tremor rod etc.

i just can't link the tremor rod so i kinda gave up on it, but what i was doing with ball lightning was using the three dragons helmet so that my lightning damage could freeze, and ball lightning was freezing/shattering everything.

glacial cascade probably would be superior in every way tho, being able to freeze more reliantly with a higher base damage and such - i just didn't wanna do something everyone else does

also DPS calculation for ball lightning in PoB is how PoB shows it per hit, per ball. ball lightning hits 6.66* times per second though, with a 150ms cooldown per strike to a single target. so the average hit you should essentially times it by 6 or 6.66 if you really want, then times that by how many ball lightning balls a single target will see.
this will only go up if you have some knockback chance and the target stays within the ball lightning radius for longer.

so for instance if you have 70,000 average hit dmg, times that by 6.66 = 466,200 dps per ball. times by 23 mines equals 10m dps, which would realistically be a bit higher considering you can rearm/detonate all those mines again and stuff like that.
Hi sir thanks for the build. Any tips dealing with the porcupine spines?

That's great to hear! As others have suggested having big AOE coverage helps our effective DPS quite a bit, similar to having a MORE multiplier since the ball lightning can hit more often. It's the most obvious when a monster is traveling in the same direction as the ball lightning.

Actually did a bit of testing yesterday and today and it seems like there is no better spell than ball lightning due to the fact that it hits so often which immediately procs consecrated ground, unnerve, and culling strike. Glacial cascade can burst stationary bosses down quickly but really struggles against mobile targets like metamorphs. I had a tough time dealing with ilvl 86 map (three +1 level to area watch stones) because the glacial cascade would just whiff whenever the metamorph moved or went underground. Ball lightning on the other hand lasts for a short ~3 second duration so even if the metamorph goes underground it will still get hit when it resurfaces.

If anyone is able to think of a better spell than ball lightning I would be more than willing to try, but for now I think I've tested all possible competitors (spark, glacial cascade, wave of conviction, arc)

That's a good idea with the three dragons, never thought of that, could be useful for HC players for sure. If you are still playing I would suggest farming for "lucky connections" div card and turning all jewelers into fusings, it doesn't take long to gather 1500 fusings to manually 6L. Another way is to spam prophecies and hope for Fated Connections, but seems much riskier.

Actually I struggled with porcupines quite a bit. The way I dealt with them is to throw mines and hide behind a barrier and detonate. I also tended to avoid maps where they are a normal mob, once I started the grind to level 100. Also used immortal call as a manual cast linked to increased duration, as well as the vigil with vigilant strike, however felt super clunky. XMustard suggested using three dragons as well.

Another good option this league is replacing kaoms chest with a chest that has enemies explode dealing 3% life as phys damage which can help a ton with porcupines and clearing faster.

Since they both use the same skill tree, how about using Arc for clear(gem/weapon swap? Shouldn't it clear better than BL?
