Hey all, after a week playing this to act 10 here's my thoughts...

I'm a league player but decided to play this one in standard since i had the currency and access to gear to get it to a decent level reasonably quickly. I was looking at this build for a league starter in 3.9.

Once i got this build going it's a lot of fun. It's fast, reasonably tanky, and other than phys reflect there's not too much it couldn't do fully maxed i expect. Once i got to act 4 deaths where few and far between. Bleed got me a couple of times and the odd bad luck with mechanics in boss fights. I'm just your average every day player so that's more on me than the build.

I went claws for the life gained on hit and because most unique claws are cheap and already have a ton of phys damage built in. Since i was on full life most of the time, and because close combat doesn't support claws, i changed it for damage on full life.

Here is my modified version of Wrecker's build.
https://pastebin.com/61XzXvh9
Character: RotaRanger to see the gear and gem setup.

A couple of things i struggled with. Mana sustain early to mid acts with cyclone drove me nuts. At one point i was running 3 mana flasks. There are not a lot of mana and int nodes in the build tree. In the end i equipped a Praxis which helped a lot until i could equip my -x to total mana cost rings. The shortfall in attributes was also an issue for me. You'll see i equipped a Astramentis which solved this. I suspect with a lot of playing around, it would be possible to get the right rare gear to solve both these issues.

To me the above aren't deal breakers, just things to be wary of. Wrecker has already pointed out the attribute shortfalls anyway so it shouldn't be a surprise.

Personally, I wont play this build as a league starter because i lack the skills to get over the challenges i had very easily beyond buying expensive unique gear. Again this reflects me as a player, not the build.

If i was staying in Standard League i'd keep at this build. The potential is huge. There is a lot more to do including farming the Cyclone damage helm enchant, steel rings for added phys damage. I'd work on a better amulet that has some more damage. I'd try free up a couple of points in the tree to socket jewels. I'd probably play with a queen of the forest set up for even more speed. The build is so tanky i'd probably drop a couple of defense nodes for extra damage which is something i don't normally consider. Finally i'd probably try and figure out how to make this a chaos damage build cause i really like them, and because chaos damage doesn't reflect. Personal preference of course.

Finally, thanks again for sharing your build Wrecker. Been a privilege and a lot of fun putting it into practice.

Hey Acme,

That's awesome feedback! Thank you! It was great having you around. I appreciate the honesty in your posts. I agree mana can be an issue with leech being the only method of sustaining Cyclone. We'll see what gets added to the tree around the Ranger for 3.9...but running 3 or 4 damage auras really limits the amount of investment leech gets.

Thanks again for your encouragement and feedback. I appreciate it!

What kind of build are you thinking of starting 3.9 with?

Hey Jancela!

On the mana sustain while leveling - take all 3 mana leech nodes and things will be much less frustrating. I only need to pop a mana pot on occasion when I'm fighting a unique enemy all by itself. This is probably because my gear and dps is horrible cause I'm rocking whites or really low level yellows.
Good suggestion!

This is going to be my 3.9 league starter.
Awesome! I'm stoked to have you around again. I'm looking forward to hearing what people say about this build as a league starter. I hope you enjoy it...or that more than just myself enjoy it as a league starter ;).

Edit: "Act 3 - A Fixture of Fate - Purchase - Level 34 - Immortal Call" - we can't buy this as Ranger until we get to Act 6 from Lily.
Oh right! Thanks! I'll change that right away. Thank you.

Hey Wrecker,

Not sure what my 3.9 starter will be. Really depends on the 3.9 changes.

I'm torn between a dot character because i like dot builds; minions for boss damage (assuming they don't nerf them too hard); or some kind of near indestructible tank.

No matter what it needs reasonable defense (hiding behind minions counts as good defense) or solid leach, and it needs to have good single target even if its a gem swap.

Cool. Thanks Acme_Havoc. I hope you like 3.9! Patch Notes tonight! (I'm a DoT lover too.)

Yikes, melee has taken a hit in phys reduction and how attacks work. Chaos builds too. Looks like ele is the way to go this league... accept cold cause it worked too well and too many were using it :/

Hey Acme_Havoc,

We'll see how it all goes. With the new mods for Physical Damage, I'm sure the balance will be good on both the physical and elemental side...and chaos.

I'm excited! This build will survive well with the new bosses.

Thanks for the post.

This build will likely be EXACTLY as is (I just posted this guide a week ago). I won't have time officially post the 3.9 version until 3.9 is live (sorry). But feel free to use this guide for now. No skills will change. I just have to double-check to see that the Passive tree changes didn't change the number of our travel nodes at all. I'll post it as soon as my power comes back on! Thanks for your patience. Sorry I put too much on my plate prior to league launch.)

The 3.9 version of this guide is now live! Click here to get there! Thank you so much for such a great and encouraging league! You were all so great to each other and I appreciate the attitude you all brought to the thread. I'm very blessed to have had you all around. Thank you to all who tried the build out, whether you're a poster or not. Thank you.
