Bestiary as a Core Game Mechanic
" I don't understand what exactly you have to be mad about, it appears to me as though you joined in 2013 (5 years ago) and haven't purchased a single supporter pack. So your mad a free game isn't implementing a temporarily league mechanic that was hated by the majority of players into the full game. Personally i trust GGG to manage my main game, that's why i play path of exile, bestiary was a neat idea but if they don't think it will serve us well in the main game then good for them remove it :) also legacy gone? WTF? legacy was a flashback league dude, it had no mechanics of its own other than the orbs having past league mechanics and essences are still around, are you even playing the game? The concept was a brave and interessting idea. It just did not fit into the game meta/playstyle.
Crafting is still a niche phenomenon, even though it is insanely profitable. And yes we got enough crafting mechanics. Good decision over all and I love the honesty how you handle the newsposts and dev manifestos :) That is really unique within the business of gaming! | |
The nets were HORRID.
Having to kill the creatures in the arena was also backwards, esp if you wanted to alter an item - which you need equiped to fight the beasts in the arena.... |

Wise decision. As well as problems highlighted including Bestiary in the core game it just wasn't popular enough to warrant retaining parts or whole of it's elements.

Standard is becoming cluttered with mechanics that most people just completely ignore (particularly when leveling), in trading league people will just buy an item rather than beastcraft one and in SSF it kind of goes against the ethos. Good call GGG. |

I was honestly dreading that it would make it into the core game.
So yeah, I am very happy with the decision to not include any of it into the core game. I think the main problem with it is that you do not engage with it naturally, you have to do clunky shit to engage with it (nets), and after that you have to do even more clunky shit to craft, even though there is a perfectly good system in the game already (currency items and essences). That said, nice experiment and it certainly taught me something about was is and is not fun in an ARPG. Still sane exile?

" Exactly this. GGG, you have my respect for making this decision. It can't be one made easily. However, I would love to see an improved Beastiary 2.0 in future content. :) Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

Shoulda kept the spirit beasts, the uniques were very fun and pretty much all had a purpose here or there. Even if you removed the ability to craft the aspects on other items i'll still be sad to lose access to them in any future league.
The rest though? Pretty happy its gone just too poorly implemented to be worth saving tbh. |
