Oni-Goroshi in Current League - are You gonna farm it or drop it?

I got my third one (on my alt account) with a Templar, and yes, I ended up at the spawn point, luckily (fortunately?) the Ele prolif gem helped, I was able to name lock UH and finish him off.

My alt account, dropped at 8.3 Templar.
Can confirm he does not leap slam in melee range.
I face-tanked him to 50%, once he enraged, big trouble.
Killed me 7 times, I managed to get the adds to funnel between 2 fence pieces and, with ele prolif and glacial hammer, I pounded away to refill flasks.
He is very hard to target in the crowd.

Need to roll new char. This one already had UH spawned so it wont be spawn again.

Also that is why Scion is best for farming it. Spectral Throw do the trick.

I am well aware of that now. HAHA! I still can't believe the amount of zombies I managed to spawn. I have another three or so characters that I can farm it out on, just need to sit down and give it the time. They are all marauders too. As Charan kindly pointed out, there is a trick that can be done to melee him to death. Since the other characters I have already have better gear and flasks we are going to try and down him that way.

At this point its more of a personal challenge. I gotta get some pay back on UH. I will club him to death if I have too.

EDIT:

Also DAMN talk about a lucky drop. Its insane someone had it drop at that low a level. R I P Mirror RNG

Yes, I already posted that grinding for UH is a personal challenge goal not based on any kind of logic. Grinding way into level 8 (and I have a few level 9 exiles) is typically viewed as quite insane as is my sitting on 13 swords in Standard softcore and SSF stash (my total goal is the magic #23).

So here's my insanity to the max beach grind proof:
Spoiler
1 of 4 UH battles in Incursion League. The ultimate insanity grinding out 4 swords last summer.

If you look closely it says "is now Level 9". UH finally came out at 2% that time. My worst is 6% into level 9 (major grind pain for sure).

My very first Charan Sword drop (approx. 1 year ago) with a Templar and not knowing that if you can stay very close to UH so that he won't leap slam then he doesn't generate his minions (but tough to do). Nothing to do at that point but face tank UH and double strike away until dead, then rinse and repeat. I died 27 times but I did finally kill him and get the Oni sword (I didn't DC and lose the instance).

BTW official name for this grind is now Hunting The Bitch On The Beach.

Only because GGG don't like the real name. ;)

Or possibly "HILLock of Beans" (keep pushing that rock uphill until UH time, then shove it up his ass). But this is the solemn life of a beach comber what with all the sand pounding (1000s of beach runs) that some of us choose to follow. At least for all who don't like the Betrayal Syndicate mechanics then that makes it slightly easier to get into a mental zen like state (alcoholic beverages help here) and be able to grind away for hours.

I'm into level 8 on my 2nd (and final one for this league) Oni farmer this time and it's a Duelist. Maybe I should be playing "Puff The Magic Dragon" while pounding sand and calling out for Ubie Hillock to come out and play with me in Hanalei.  :)

Note: Oh wow, I just googled "Hanalei" and found out it's a town in Hawaii. I've never used Marijuana so I can't know if it would help ease the beach grind. I learn something new every day.

Hmmm... Why does GGG not like the name Hillock? At least it's better than "It That Fled" (what are you... some kind of m-o-r-o-n?).

...fill in the rest in your head.

Now that recalls very old memories. My first programmable calculator was an HP 41 back in 1979. It wasn't even the C model, I had to buy the memory module as an extra item (the HP 41 has 4 ports to plug things in). It cost me over $300 back then. Now I have a free HP41CV app on my Android phone (technology advances... too bad people and way outdated racist thinking doesn't). Anyway, the first calculator game was called Hunt The Wumpus. Hmmm, I wonder... I'll be damned... the Internet has everything. Sure enough there is a Wikipedia entry on it here. This was a single player game and the caves you were exploring in search of the mythical Wumpus were the vertices of a dodecahedron (12 sided polyhedron). My first programming hack as a college freshman where I made it a 2 player game so my friend could play with me and see who could kill the Wumpus first (or get eaten by it).

Hunt The Wumpus started my friendship with another computer geek in 1980 that became a BFFL and now I type this post from my gaming rig in our house (me, him, and his wife). We've played every arpg except D1 (started with D2). I got them to play PoE back in 2014 (I think... I wish I could search my own post history as I posted about our trio playing back then). Suffice to say I'm soloing PoE today as a combination of desync (back then) and they are super casual players that never want to have to skip content so after dieing too many times to a rogue encounter in the Submerged Caverns because which we couldn't get good shots on the rogue without getting too close (twisting little passages that all look alike... do you remember that line from Zork?) that was super frustrating for them and they stopped (we tried old PoE for about a month).

Thanks for the Hunt The Wumpus memory flashback Charan.

Now back to my Daily Deals update for today and my level 8 Duelist pounding the Twilight Strand Beach in between playing Tectonic Slam and Winter Orb builds (completely different play styles, build diversity is why I'm still playing).

Man, to say that I quit Betrayal because autopilot skills got to ruin my fun. I played so much Arc, Brands, totems that I ended disgusted by the game.

And after 2 weeks away, here I came again just to farm Oni and nothing else, out of boredom. After getting it I told myself "I gotta do something with it". Went Consecrated Path Chieftain and man, I'm having the best time ever again! Melee is so fun, so engaging. It's been leagues I stopped playing melee and to play it now that everyone whines "Melee is dead" gives it a special flavour lol.

I'm really in love with her voice. "BUUURN!"

Ay Lmao

Level 6.5 across 4 characters now, no sign of it. Only at about 2 hours total time investment watching some episode on Netflix.

Hope I find one tonight. Really want to start this league. This is my fourth farm. Usually I go for 2 (Play one character and when I'm sick of progressing I'll go hit Twilight Strand for 30 minutes or so).
To all OG farmers... NEVER GIVE UP!

Another day, another exercise jogging up the beach. Oh Hillock, oh Ubie Hillock, why won't you come out and play? I'm so lonely and the nasties (zombies) are getting on my nerves. Please come out and play. The grind is getting brutal even for aspi exiles.

Finally... it's about damn time!

HURRAY!!! UH is dead. Long live uber Hillock!... Oh just die you nasty!

Even with a level 9 witch face tanking UH he did his leap slam twice on her. That was certainly less than if she stayed at range but more than zero. At least it was a quick UH kill but the zombies mob killed her once.

After this much grind I was getting mentally ground down too. I started another trio of OG farmers and had this extra lone one as a holdover from Delve league so I played it in the rotation. After 5 loops on the rotation UH finally decided to play ball with her (fireball that is).

The best thing about the extra grind is this:

I got a perfect 90% roll on it. Only the 2nd time this has happened.

Keep going strong. You could get lucky and get UH in < level 7 but across 15 swords (and counting) to date my best was level 6.7 but typically I see my first UH at level 7.2x (it was level 7.25 in Betrayal) and of course then there are the horrors of a level 9 exile (as seen above) that are just insane to the max on grind. If your gaming rig is in the same room as your tv at least you can grind away when viewing shows that you don't need to be attentively watching.

Arrowneous, uber Hillock hunter signing out for now.  :)
