Harbinger language/symbol translation
" Thank you DemonikPath! Notice how symbol from Harbinger leader: looks similar (yet slightly different) to symbol on map: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke

The symbol for the harbinger leader looks like an arrow pointing to the largest of three squares. I would say it is a fairly straightforward pictogram that simply means 'leader'.
We might be able to clarify the meaning of some of the connecting symbols by studying the whole phrase. Last edited by locobilbo on Aug 28, 2017, 11:56:55 AM

we have new info
The symbol of the God of Domination, whom the Harbingers seem to have some connection with. Spirals can often be found on the land and creatures the Beast influences. Because of this, the Harbinger glyphs represent The Beast as a spiral. I need more purple titles

I don't know how to quote the recent announcement, but bex said the unique items have to be arranged in a particular order in order to translate their flavour text. Immediately below that paragraph is a list of harbinger symbols that correspond to each of the harbingers summoned by the unique items. Is it too obvious that the order of the symbols is the correct order in which the items have to be arranged?
So the order would be: belt mask quiver shield staff sword Last edited by locobilbo on Aug 28, 2017, 11:47:09 PM

Ok here is my attempted translation of the history of the Harbingers. Each line corresponds to a line of flavour text on the unique items in the order described in my above post:
Spoiler
The skill of God grew in maps
The skill of God grew in time The faithful of God were strengthened by His skill The Beast enclosed time God became weak and fled The faithful of God lost their connection to Him The faithful of God were scattered by their hidden Lord God increased in strength But God was disconnected from time The faithful of God also grew in strength The Beast was at a vulnerable time The angry God struggled in exile God found a way to mend His connection The angry God in exile The hidden God expanded his influence The exiled God became renewed The hidden God grew in influence among His hidden faithful God's faithful grew in strength God's faithful grew in skill God's faithful focused on (something) The faithful focused on Wraeclast It is not particularly poetic but I think I have the gist of the meaning. Many symbols which I have translated, including those for skill, strength and power are by no means correct, but probably at least convey the same feeling. | |
wow, this is fantastic work! I find it very interesting! kudos to everybody on this

You're right about the order of the items Locobilbo. Though I am not entirely sure about the meaning of that symbol "skill". It could be it, though I have doubt.
Didn't expect that spiral symbol stands for "Beast". Bex wrote: "Spirals can often be found on the land and creatures the Beast influences", but I cant remember seeing it anywhere outside of "Beachhead" map. Probably wasn't paying enough attention :) "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke

" Spirals were added in 3.0 (even in beta). They are near almost every boss from A1 to A4 and also some map bosses. I remember wondering what do these spirals mean, but never found out. I guess they mean strong beast influence or something like that. Last edited by DemonikPath on Aug 29, 2017, 2:23:11 AM

" Yeah I originally thought that symbol meant skill because it appeared on the sword next to the symbol for 'expansion'. I previously interpreted that line as 'increased area of effect for skills' due the the similar mod on the weapon. Since I have dumped that translation it doesn't make sense to use it in my new translation, I know. However, I still do have a feeling that it looks like a pictogram of a socketed skill gem. It may be something to do with virtue gems, since they appear heavily in the lore? Once it was revealed that the spiral meant 'beast' I think that gave away a lot of the meaning behind the flavour text, since it is likely that the God of the Harbingers has suffered the same fate as the gods of Wraeclast at the hands of the beast. " Your explanation is logical and can be true, its just that uncertainty that bothers my mind. Like with that "beast" symbol. Was pretty sure it meant "Portal" by clues and its graphical look yet I was wrong. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke
